Ellas Otha Bates, noto come Bo Diddley, (McComb, 30 dicembre 1928 – Archer (Florida), 2 giugno 2008), è stato un cantante, chitarrista e autore rock and roll statunitense. È stato soprannominato "The Originator of Rock 'N' Roll" ed è stato spesso citato come una figura chiave della transizione dal blues al rock'n roll. E' morto nella sua casa in Florida a causa di un infarto inaspettato. È ricordato anche per le sue tipiche chitarre a forma rettangolare.

È stato uno degli artisti le cui canzoni sono state più frequentemente eseguite da altri interpreti.

Fra gli innumerevoli esempi, The Rolling Stones e i Quicksilver Messenger Service hanno realizzato la cover di "Mona". The Animals e Bob Seger hanno inciso "The Story of Bo Diddley". The Who, The Remains and The Yardbirds hanno interpretato "I'm a Man", mentre The Woolies, George Thorogood and Juicy Lucy hanno ottenuto successi con "Who Do You Love", interpretata anche dai Quicksilver Messenger Service e da The Doors.
