Ben Hecht (New York, 28 febbraio 1894 – New York, 18 aprile 1964) è stato uno sceneggiatore statunitense. Ha lavorato come sceneggiatore, scrittore (1001 afternoons in Chicago),giornalista, in un talk show irriverente (di cui era autore) e come regista (con scarsi risultati). Ha sempre detestato (forse talvolta per posa) l'industria hollywoodiana, accusando il suo lavoro di sceneggiatore come la causa del suo mancato "grande romanzo". Ha lavorato insieme ad altri scrittori come Francis Scott Fitzgerald alla sceneggiatura di Via col vento.

Ha vinto l'Oscar al miglior soggetto nel 1929 per Le notti di Chicago e nel 1936 per The Scoundrel. Non si presentò alla cerimonia degli Oscar del '29 quando vinse la prima statuetta; mandò invece un telegramma dicendo di essere onorato e felice che fosse stato istituito un premio per cercare di mettere in luce i film di qulità. In questo modo Hollywood sembrava meno una "latrina".

Il film Scarface del 1983 di Brian De Palma, come riportato nei titoli di coda, è dedicato a lui e a Howard Hawks essendo stati rispettivamente sceneggiatore e regista dello Scarface del 1932
