WWE World Tag Team Championship

Il World Tag Team Championship era un titolo della World Wrestling Entertainment risevato alla categoria dei tag team.

Storia

La cintura nacque con il nome World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF) World Tag Team Championship. Luke Graham e Tarzan Tyler furono i primi lottatori a detenerlo il 3 giugno 1971 dopo aver conquistato la vittoria in un torneo. Nel 1979 il cambio di nome della federazione portò ad una trasformazione anche nei nomi dei titoli e la cintura assunse la denominazione di World Wrestling Federation (WWF) World Tag Team Championship. Durante Survivor Series 2001 il titolo fu unificato al WCW World Tag Team Championship quando i Dudley Boyz sconfissero gli Hardy Boyz in un Steel Cage Match. Con il rinnovo del nome della federazione avvenuto nel 2002 il titolo prese l'attuale nome di WWE Tag Team Championship. In seguito al brand extension del marzo 2002 l'allora tag team regnante formato da Billy e Chuck passò al roster di SmackDown! insieme al titolo. Quando la cintura fu vinta da Lance Storm e Christian, il titolo fu riportato a RAW, diventando così elemento esclusivo del roster di Eric Bischoff. Successivamente sono stati creati dalla GM di SmackDown!, Stephanie McMahon, i WWE Tag Team Championship, titoli di coppia esclusivamente per il roster di SmackDown! e i titoli di coppia di Raw vennero rinominati in World Tag Team Championship. A WrestleMania 25 c'è stato un match tra i World Tag Team Champions (The Miz e John Morrison) e il WWE Tag Team Champions (Carlito e Primo) per l'unificazione delle cinture. A vincere sono stati i WWE Tag Team Champions (Carlito e Primo) diventando i primi Unified WWE Tag Team Champions, però mantenendo tutte e 4 le cinture. Il 16 agosto 2010 il misterioso GM di RAW decide di sostituire i titoli unificati di coppia con un solo paio di cinture rinominate WWE Tag Team Championship; ciò significa che le vecchie cinture di coppia (i World Tag Team Titles) vengono ufficialmente ritirate lasciando nella storia come ultimi campioni la Hart Dynasty.
