Gli MTV Europe Music Awards, in sigla EMAs o EMA, sono una manifestazione organizzata dall'emittente televisiva MTV Networks Europe, dove vengono premiati i cantanti e le canzoni più popolari del Vecchio Continente.

La prima edizione degli MTV Europe Music Awards si è tenuta nel 1994. In origine questo premio era stato pensato in alternativa agli americani MTV Video Music Awards. Oggi la trasmissione è diventata molto popolare in tutto il mondo.

Gli MTV Europe Music Awards si tengono ogni anno in una diversa città europea (l'Italia li ha ospitati nel 1998 a Milano e nel 2004 a Roma). La premiazione viene trasmessa ogni anno dal vivo da MTV, e tra i premi assegnati ve n'è uno per il miglior artista di ogni paese europeo in cui è trasmessa l'emittente televisiva musicale.

Generalmente i premi sono assegnati tramite votazioni sul sito ufficiale, in cui gli utenti possono votare i loro artisti preferiti per la candidatura e successivamente decretare il vincitore di ogni categoria.

I prossimi MTV EMA si terranno per la quarta volta in Germania il 5 novembre 2009 a Berlino, in coincidenza con il ventesimo anniversario della caduta del muro. Lo spettacolo si svolgerà nell'O₂ World e di fronte la Porta di Brandeburgo^[1].

Fino ad oggi Eminem è l'artista che ha vinto più volte questo titolo (8 volte), seguito da Britney Spears (7), Justin Timberlake (5), The Prodigy (5), Muse (5), 30 Seconds to Mars (4), Linkin Park (4), Backstreet Boys (4), Madonna (4), Robbie Williams (4), Red Hot Chili Peppers (4), Spice Girls (3), Coldplay (3), Alicia Keys (3), Jennifer Lopez (3), Kane (3), Gorillaz (3), Oasis (3).

Britney Spears inoltre, detiene il record di 4 premi vinti in una sola serata (Dublino 1999), questo record con le nomination attuali e' destinato a rimanere imbattuto nel tempo.
