Tegan Rain Quin e Sara Kiersten Quin (nate il 19 settembre 1980, gemelle) sono due cantautrici canadesi, note con il nome Tegan and Sara.

Biografia

Duo indie pop canadese, Tegan e Sara sono ormai al settimo album, Heartthrob, dopo i precedenti successi di Sainthood e di The Con. La loro più celebre canzone Walking with a Ghost è stata reincisa dagli White Stripes; loro stesse sono state autrici della cover della celebre Dancing in the Dark di Bruce Springsteen. Sono state in tour con i Paramore, i Killers, Hot hot Heat e Ryan Adams e sono rinomate per i loro esilaranti live show. Le loro sonorità spaziano dal pop rock melodico del terzo album If It Was You (2002) a un rock leggermente più alternativo di So Jealous (2004), caratterizzato da tratti melodici incisivi e accattivanti (Walking with a Ghost, Speak Slow), fino alla maggiore maturità musicale raggiunta con il loro quinto album The Con (2007), nel quale il gruppo si avvale di un set strumentale molto più vario che prevede il largo utilizzo, oltre che delle immancabili chitarre, di tastiere e moog. Il risultato finale è quindi un album, che sebbene ad un primo superficiale ascolto possa sembrare, in alcuni tratti, un po' azzardato, si rivela invece essere un lavoro molto raffinato e di classe grazie anche alla collaborazione di ottimi musicisti come Matt Sharp e Hunter Burgan al basso, Jason McGerr alla batteria e il talento chitarristico di Kaki King, il tutto sotto la produzione di Christopher Walla dei Death Cub for Cuties.

Entrambe le sorelle sono lesbiche dichiarate e punti di riferimento per la cultura LGBT mondiale.
