I Tokio Hotel sono un gruppo teen pop tedesco, formatosi a Magdeburgo nel 2001 e costituito da quattro giovani tedeschi: i gemelli Bill e Tom Kaulitz, Georg Listing e Gustav Schäfer. La band vanta circa 5 milioni di copie vendute mondialmente[4].

Gli inizi [modifica]
Nel 2001, durante il talent show di Wolmirstedt, una cittadina a sud di Loitsche, i gemelli Kaulitz, che vi partecipavano, conoscono Gustav.[5][6] Gustav presentò loro Georg che conosceva dalla scuola di musica che frequentava. Insieme, i quattro formarono un gruppo chiamato Devilish ed iniziarono ad esibirsi in numerosi club di Magdeburgo e dintorni, in Germania. Per loro stessa ammissione il nome del gruppo non aveva un vero e proprio significato ma aveva soltanto un bel suono.
Nel 2003 Bill Kaulitz partecipò al Talent-Show Star Search, dove arrivò solamente secondo, e venne notato dal produttore Peter Hoffmann che iniziò a far fare strada al gruppo attraverso numerose esibizioni.
Nel 2004, i quattro ribattezzarono il gruppo Tokio Hotel, nome che, secondo quanto da loro affermato[7], coniuga il nome della capitale giapponese, Tokyo, scelta perché città dinamica ed in espansione, con il termine Hotel, riferimento del fatto che l'attività professionistica li costringa passare gran parte del loro tempo appunto negli hotel. Quello stesso anno, il gruppo iniziò a lavorare con un gruppo di produttori di Amburgo: il già citato Peter Hoffmann, Pat Benzner, Dave Roth e David Jost, che contribuirono a rendere il loro approccio più professionale.
Hoffmann presentò il gruppo a numerose case discografiche e finalmente la Sony BMG decise di mettere i Tokio Hotel sotto contratto. Prima dell'uscita della loro prima hit Durch den Monsun, che scalerà tutte le classifiche in Germania e successivamente in altri Paesi, i Tokio Hotel ottennero un contratto con la Universal Music.

I Tokio Hotel si fecero conoscere nell'estate del 2005 quando in agosto venne pubblicato il loro singolo di debutto dal nome Durch den Monsun, rilasciato inizialmente solo in Germania, Polonia, Austria e Repubblica Ceca. Quest'ultimo debuttò al 15º posto della classifica dei singoli più venduti ma riuscì ad ottenere il primo posto dopo soli 7 giorni. Nel settembre dello stesso anno uscì l'album di debutto della band dal nome Schrei (Urla). Successivamente uscì il secondo singolo, la titletrack Schrei, che bissò il successo del primo singolo. Il successo fu tale che portò i Tokio Hotel alla produzione di un DVD dal titolo Leb' die sekunde - Behind the scenes che mostra la loro vita nello studio di registrazione e un'esibizione live. I quattro giovani intanto non perdono tempo e dopo pochissimo esce una seconda edizione dell'album Schrei che prende il nome di Schrei - So Laut Du Kannst, in cui vennero aggiunte famosissime hit quali Rette Mich; questo fu seguito immediatamente da un secondo DVD dal nome Schrei Live che comprendeva come il primo un documentario del backstage (2006) e l'esibizione live a Oberhausen.
Zimmer 483 (2007 - 2008) [modifica]

Nel frattempo il gruppo cominciò a lavorare a un secondo album che usci nel febbraio del 2007 e portante il nome di Zimmer 483. L'uscita dell'album è anticipata dal singolo apripista Übers Ende Der Welt. Il successo fu enorme quanto inaspettato e l'album vendette oltre 3 milioni di copie nella sola Germania. Il secondo singolo ad essere estratto fu Spring Nicht inciso in tre versioni diverse. Anche quest'album fu rilasciato solo per il mercato di Germania, Polonia, Austria e Repubblica Ceca. Il disco poi venne registrato in lingua inglese con il nome di Scream per tutta l'Europa e Room 483 per la sola Germania.
Scream/Room 483 (2007 - 2008) [modifica]

Nel 2007 la Universal offre ai Tokio Hotel di incidere un album completamente in lingua inglese e di conseguenza il debutto per il gruppo in tutta Europa.
Il 18 maggio 2007 viene rilasciato in tutto il continente il singolo di debutto internazionale Monsoon, versione inglese della hit tedesca Durch Den Monsun, che riscuote un successo inaspettato raggiungendo la 1ª posizione delle classifiche di tutta Europa. Il 1º giugno 2007 in Italia e il 4 giugno 2007 nel resto d'Europa viene rilasciato l'album di debutto internazionale della band intitolato Scream e contenente le loro migliori canzoni degli album Schrei e Zimmer 483, ma incise completamente in lingua inglese; in Germania l'album venne rilasciato con il nome di Room 483. L'album riscuote successo in tutta Europa e in Italia raggiunge la 2ª posizione della Hit List Italia. Nel settembre 2007 venne rilasciato il secondo singolo intitolato Ready, Set, Go!, versione inglese della hit tedesca Übers Ende Der Welt che bisserà il successo del singolo precedente riuscendo a rimanere alla 1ª posizione della classifica di Total Request Live per svariate settimane[senza fonte]. Il terzo singolo estratto fu la pluripremiata By Your Side, pubblicata nel dicembre 2007 e che otterrà il successo dei due singoli precedenti. Il video diviene, sin dalla pubblicazione, uno dei video in rotazione continua su MTV Italia.
Il 30 ottobre 2007 si sono esibiti per la prima volta in Italia al Mediolanum Forum di Assago per l'unica data italiana del loro tour, dopo che la location era stata spostata dall'Alcatraz al primacitato Mediolanum Forum (capienza dodicimila persone) per la troppa richiesta, che ha registrato il tutto esaurito. Per l'inizio del 2008 venne previsto un nuovo tour, che avrebbe toccato l'Italia il 23 marzo al Palasport Olimpico di Torino, il 25 marzo al PalaLottomatica di Roma, e il 26 marzo al Palamaguti di Bologna ma a causa di un problema vocale del frontman Bill Kaulitz, (una cisti nella zona delle corde vocali) le 3 date sono state rinviate. Bill ha quindi dovuto subire un intervento chirurgico molto delicato alle corde vocali che lo hanno tenuto lontano dalla scena musicale con il suo gruppo per più di un mese. Fortunatamente l'intero 1000hotels tour previsto per marzo-aprile in tutta Europa ed andato quasi completamente cancellato (tranne le prime 6 date) è stato recuperato durante l'estate con il 1000hotels tour-open air, che ha toccato l'Italia per due date, il 6 luglio all'ippodromo Capannelle a Roma e l'11 luglio al parco Novi Sad a Modena (data sostitutiva di Bologna).
Visto l'immenso successo, la band è sbarcata anche negli Stati Uniti: nel dicembre 2007 è stato rilasciato il singolo in edizione limitata Scream America e durante il mese di febbraio 2008 i ragazzi hanno suonato a New York e a Los Angeles, facendo tappa anche in Canada a Montreal e a Toronto. Alla fine di aprile visto il successo del primo viaggio hanno fatto tappa per un mese negli Stati Uniti dove hanno tenuto una serie di concerti sold out. La stessa cosa successe in agosto del 2008 quando i quattro ragazzi hanno deciso di ritornare negli Usa e in Canada per ripetere il successo del tour precedente. Questa volta hanno fatto anche tappa in Messico e Cile, visto il successo che stanno riscuotendo in Tutto il mondo.
2009 e Humanoid [modifica]

I Tokio Hotel durante il 2009, hanno subito parecchi problemi (denunce e risse), tra le quali un'aggressione da parte di 4 stalkers francesi. Queste ragazze si fanno chiamare "Le afgane in tour" e hanno seguito ossessivamente i Tokio Hotel per 6 mesi. Il 15 aprile 2009, il chitarrista Tom Kaulitz si trovava alla stazione di servizio di Amburgo nella sua Audi e, stanco delle provocazioni, colpì una di loro, la ventunenne Perrine D., la quale reagì spegnendo la sigaretta sul finestrino della macchina di Tom. Il tutto fu ripreso da una videocamera di sicurezza della stazione e Tom fu denunciato e poi multato di 1000 €. Nei confronti di Perrine fu invece emessa un'ordinanza restrittiva che le ingiungeva di rimanere ad almeno 1 chilometro di distanza dai due gemelli, pena una multa di 25.000 €. Un'altra aggressione fu quella al batterista Gustav Schäfer nella notte del 20 luglio 2009: di fronte alla discoteca "The Club" l'allora ventinovenne Nexhat T. ha colpito violentemente Schäfer sulla fronte e sulla testa con due bottiglie di birra, procurandogli notevoli ferite che hanno richiesto 36 punti di sutura. L'aggressore sostenne che la sua reazione fu scatenata da provocazioni da parte di Gustav che era sotto l'effetto dell'alcol. L'uomo fu poi multato di soli 500 € e scrisse una lettera di scuse al batterista.
Tom Kaulitz annunciò sul suo blog il nome del nuovo album, Humanoid, che è stato pubblicato sia in inglese che in tedesco il 2 ottobre 2009.[8]
L'album è stato concluso con un totale di 12 canzoni (più quattro canzoni bonus nell'edizione Deluxe, ndr), ed il primo singolo ad essere pubblicato è stato Automatic, che è uscito esattamente il 18 settembre 2009.[9] Poche settimane dopo l'uscita di Humanoid sono state annunciate le date del Welcome to Humanoid City Tour che comprende anche quattro date in Italia: Torino, Padova, Milano e Roma. Il secondo singolo dell'album è World Behind My Wall,che è stato pubblicato il 22 gennaio 2010 in tutto il mondo, ed è stato annunciato da Tom Kaulitz nel suo blog. Nel luglio 2010 è uscito il DVD "Humanoid City Live" registrato durante la tappa del 12 aprile 2010 a Milano. L'album in Italia è uscito in anteprima solo per il 16 luglio in un solo negozio di Catania, in occasione della prima visita in sud Italia della band, purtroppo con la sola presenza dei gemelli Bill e Tom, in occasione dell'ultima giornata di TRL On The Road; questo servì a dare la possibilità a 300 fans di ottenere un pass per partecipare alla signing session avvenuta dopo la diretta della puntata di TRL. Successivamente, il 20 luglio, l'album è uscito in Italia.
Best of 2010 [modifica]
Il 22 novembre 2010 la loro nuova canzone Hurricanes and Suns viene inclusa come bonus track della raccolta Best of contenente tutti i loro migliori successi attuali. L'album, dal 14 dicembre venduto anche in Italia, è in commercio in tre versioni: English Version (versione inglese), German Version (versione tedesca) e Deluxe Limited Edition (versione limitata deluxe). È inclusa anche una traccia registrata dal gruppo nel 2003, mai pubblicata prima, dal titolo "Mädchen Aus Dem All".
2012 e preparazione al nuovo album [modifica]
A Los Angeles (in cui i gemelli si sono trasferiti nel settembre 2010) Bill e Tom si sono presi un periodo di pausa, annunciando nel 2011 che stavano lavorando al prossimo album. A marzo 2012 i Tokio Hotel annunciano che sono state registrate 8 tracce del loro nuovo album. Intanto il 22 dicembre 2011 viene lanciata un'applicazione, BTK Twins App, disponibile per dispositivi Apple o con sistema Android, grazie alla quale i gemelli condividono e scambiano stati, pensieri, novità, foto e video con i propri fan; parallelamente, nello stesso periodo, i Kaulitz lanciano la Tokio Hotel VipCall, un'applicazione che permette di ricevere sul proprio telefonino messaggi vocali direttamente dai Tokio Hotel. Nel 22 maggio 2012 viene rilasciata una collaborazione di Bill Kaulitz col gruppo electro hop californiano Far East Movement: If I Die Tomorrow. Da settembre 2012 Bill e Tom Kaulitz siedono nella giuria di DSDS (programma del canale televisivo tedesco RTL), un casting show simile a X-Factor, in onda da Gennaio 2013. Bill e Tom sono ritornati più volte in Germania tra settembre e ottobre 2012, incontrando più volte anche Georg e Gustav. I Kaulitz, intanto, dovrebbero ritornare in Germania nei prossimi mesi.
