This will be enabled as a feature in the coming week for all users, which can be turned on or off using a preference setting. Questa diverrà la funzionalità predefinita per tutti gli utenti la prossima settimana, ma potrà essere disabilitata nelle Preferenze. Compact Language Links has been available as a beta-feature on all Wikimedia wikis since 2014. With compact language links enabled, users are shown a much shorter list of languages on the interlanguage link section of an article (see image). Based on several factors, this shorter list of languages is expected to be more relevant for them and valuable for finding similar content in a language known to them. More information about compact language links can be found in the documentation.

From today onwards, compact language links have been enabled as the default listing of interlanguage links on this wiki. However, using the button at the bottom, you will be able to see a longer list of all the languages the article has been written in. The setting for this compact list can be enabled or disabled by using the checkbox under User Preferences -> Appearance -> Languages. Please note, languages are displayed in the list as per individual user's preference and will improve as you navigate between articles in different languages. More information about the language selection is available in the FAQ.

The compact language links feature has been tested extensively by the Wikimedia Language team, which developed it. However, in case there are any problems or other feedback please let us know on the project talk page. It is to be noted that on some wikis the presence of an existing older gadget that was used for a similar purpose may cause an interference for compact language list. L'mw:Editing team sta pianificando di cambiare il nome del bottone "Salva la pagina" in "Pubblica la pagina" e "Pubblica le modifiche". "Pubblica la pagina" sarà utilizzato nella creazione di nuove pagine. "Pubblica le modifiche" sarà invece utilizzato per le modifiche alle pagine già esistenti. I nomi si manterranno uguali in tutti i contesti di modifica.[1][2]

Questo cambiamento sarà probabilmente messo in atto nella settimana del 30 agosto 2016. La modifica sarà resa pubblica attraverso il notiziario tecnico.

Se hai un'ottima conoscenza di un linguaggio diverso dall'inglese per cortesia controlla lo stato delle traduzioni su translatewiki.net sia per quanto riguarda l'etichetta “Pubblica la pagina” che per “Pubblica le modifiche”.

La principale ragione per tale modifica è quella di evitare confusione fra i nuovi utenti. Svariate ricerche hanno rilevato come alcuni nuovi utenti fossero convinti che il bottone “Salva la pagina” avrebbe salvato una copia della nuova pagina accessibile solo attraverso i loro account, invece di pubblicare il testo sul web. È importante che questa parte dell'interfaccia utente sia chiara, alla luce del fatto che è difficile rimuovere le informazioni inserite una volta pubblicate. Siamo convinti che la confusione creata dal bottone “Salva la pagina” aumenti il carico di lavoro degli utenti esperti, i quali si trovano a dover rimuovere le informazioni involontariamente inserite e a doverne richiedere la rimozione a chi può farlo. Chiarire la funzionalità del tasto mitigherà il problema.

Lo scopo è, inoltre, quello uniformare le wiki nelle varie lingua in quanto alcune di esse hanno già messo in atto la modifica da tempo. Il team legale della Wikimedia Foundation approva la modifica. Rendere l'interfaccia di modifica più semplice da capire renderà più semplice la gestione delle domande sulle licenze e la privacy che potrebbero sorgere.

Tutte le pagine d'aiuto e di documentazione in merito alle modifiche dovranno essere aggiornate, su wiki e dovunque. Sulle pagine wiki sarà possibile utilizzare il wikicodice {{int:Publishpage}} e {{int:Publishchanges}} per visualizzare le nuove etichette nel linguaggio impostato dall'utente. Per il linguaggio impostato nelle tue preferenze, il risultato sarà “Pubblica la pagina” e “Pubblica le modifiche” rispettivamente. Per cortesia condividi la notizia coi membri della comunità che insegnano ai nuovi utenti a modificare e con chi potrebbe essere interessato.

Per i nostalgici, la vecchia home page

segnalo che l'home page di Wikipedia è stata aggiornata dal team Discovery. qui la notizia sul blog ufficiale (in inglese). come recita l'annuncio, il nuovo portale dovrebbe essere più veloce della vecchia pagina, oltre a riconoscere la lingua del vostro browser e mostrare le versioni linguistiche dei progetti a cui siete (possibilmente) interessati. --valepert 22:21, 16 ago 2016 (CEST)

Simpatico. Ma ancora non l'hanno capito che ordinare per numero di voci non ha alcun senso? Per caso le wikipedie in cebuano o in waray-waray sono più utili perché contano più di un milione di voci?

Mi piacerebbe invece un bel mappamondo dove uno clicca su uno stato o una regione e ci trova le lingue che sono parlate in quello stato o regione, in ordine di numero di parlanti.

Meglio ancora sarebbe stata una ricerca dove il lettore possa decidere di ordinare:

• per zona geografica
• per numero di parlanti
• per numero di voci
• per numero di visite
• etc.

Magari la prossima volta?

In Svizzera parlano pure il tedesco alemanno e una variante di lombardo, mettiamo anche quelle? Più dell'esperanto, mi preoccupa quali lingue mostrare quando si clicca sulla Cisgiordania. O se mostrare il curdo se clicco sul sudest della Turchia. O su quanta superficie di Istria mostrare anche l'italiano. L'idea sarebbe bella se vivessimo in un mondo ideale, ma in questo mondo rischiamo di cacciarci in un ginepraio geopolitico. E infine non renderesti giustizia alle comunità straniere che vivono in un paese diverso da quello di origine, ma che contribuiscono comunque alla wikipedia nella loro lingua natale. io lo leggo in modo diverso: ci sono le diverse Community che compongono l'universo wiki, c'è una traccia di quale e quanto sia l'impegno che si profonde da centinaia di contesti diversi. C'è una sorta di partecipazione, ci siamo tutti in quella schermata, o quasi. Il problema è la selezione. Ma chi di noi si farebbe dire che un qualsiasi altro Progetto fratello merita più di noi di stare lì? e in base a cosa? alla qualità delle voci? e chi la certifica? chi è che parla così tante lingue, tutte le lingue di Wikipedia, da poter comparare? Non abbiamo altro criterio possibile, e dobbiamo accettarlo, che certi numeri di database. Poi noi sappiamo bene che sono numeri e che potremmo considerarli in un certo modo, ma quei numeri almeno ci sono e sono oggettivi. Vorremmo esserci tutti, ma non si può. Intanto nella figura d'insieme c'è l'idea di Comunità. Comunità viva che pian piano troverà una soluzione migliore lavorandoci sopra. ps: il consiglio dell'ip qui sopra non è niente male, ma temo poco appetibile da un punto di vista della promozione pro-fondi (non dimentichiamo che wiki si basa sulle donazioni). In fondi i numeri grandi colpiscono di più. Secondo questo ragionamento en.wiki sarebbe premiata almeno con il 50% dei "fondi", poi un 49% a de.wiki fr.wiki it.wiki e un paio di altre versioni in lingue europee, e il restante 1% alle altre 300 versioni, che sicuramente in fondo non ne hanno bisogno... :-P --Phyrexian ɸ 16:27, 18 ago 2016 (CEST)

Per rispondere a Daniele Pugliesi, non penso che il criterio del numero di voci non abbia nessun senso: è una bella vetrina per il mondo, e seppure il numero di voci forse non ha più la stessa importanza come agli albori del Progetto, quando ancora si faceva a gare con le enciclopedie tradizionali (che ormai sono state distanziate in ordini di grandezza astronomici) rimane uno degli indicatori di qualità (sì di qualità!) fra i più importanti. Grazie anzitutto per i pareri alla mia proposta, in massima parte azzeccati.
L'idea del mappamondo "mi piacerebbe", ma come è stato fatto giustamente notare andrebbe incontro a tante problematiche.
Soffermandoci sul fattibile, penso che si potrebbe comunque indicare una lista divisa per zone geografiche, che potrebbero essere anche i continenti o le nazioni (senza quindi scendere troppo nel particolare) dove ciascuna lingua sia citata nella zone geografiche dove è più parlata e dove è ufficiale. Nel caso di lingue che sono scomparse e quelle che non hanno una particolare zona (come l'esperanto) si potrebbero creare delle liste a parte, per cui si avrebbero:

• lingue europee
• lingue asiatiche
• lingue africane
• lingue americane
• lingue dell'Oceania
• lingue senza localizzazione
• lingue scomparse.

A parte questa classificazione "geografica", nella proposta iniziale dicevo inoltre di fare non una sola classificazione, bensì tante categorizzazioni, in modo tale che l'utente possa scegliere da sé quale classificazione fa al caso suo (geografica, per numero di voci, per numero di parlanti, per grandezza del database, dalla più antica alla più moderna, ecc.)

A me sembra eccessivo chiamare qualcuno "impallinato". Così mi offendi. Ti consiglio la lettura di Wikipedia:Wikiquette.

Tornando al punto della questione, io invece lo troverei utile e penso come me tanti altri lettori ne potrebbero avere beneficio.

D'accordo sulla semplificazione, ma imporre ai lettori una singola classificazione penso che riduca l'utilità della pagina. Ad alcuni (o molti) potrebbe infatti non interessare se una Wikipedia contiene più o meno di un milione di articoli. Almeno io, se dovessi cercare una Wikipedia in una certa lingua lo farei seguendo dei fili logici più immediati, quindi secondo uno schema geografico o alfabetico. Ad esempio se cercassi la Wikipedia in lingua tedesca farei prima a guardare alla lettera T (=tedesca) oppure sulla lettera D (=Deutsch) oppure a cliccare sulla Germania in una mappa geopolitica, anche perché non so a prescindere quanti articoli contiene la Wikipedia in lingua tedesca. --Daniele Pugliesi (msg) 13:20, 20 ago 2016 (CEST)

non ho capito come impallinato nel senso di persona addentrata nella materia possa risultato offensivo, ho comunque strikato sopra.

in realtà il portale generico NON serve per cercare una specifica Wikipedia, ma per essere una sorta di vetrina del progetto. considerando che nelle bacheche si espongono gli oggetti più preziosi, ha senso che si punti a mostrare con grande rilevanza i progetti più corposi dal punto di vista dei contributi (e, evitando di fare il mero conteggio tecnico il numero di revisioni, l'altro parametro comprensibile ai più è il numero di voci)

mettere una mappa geopolitica, per quanto possa essere utile, secondo me snatura il progetto che non ha confini geografici e men che meno politici (esempio estremo: la Wikipedia in cinese non è della Cina, dove anzi è stata più volte bloccata). --valepert 13:35, 20 ago 2016 (CEST)

More than once, I have made an addition to the Wiki page on Guido Keller, providing citation information from one of the books listed in the bibliography. It was recently deleted by Dimitrij Kasev as vandalism. This is pure and simple homophobia, and a reason why as a professor of English I do not advise students ever to use wikipedia. Dear friends from Italian Wikipedia, Thank you for your kind message! I try to publish my research for an Italian diplomat who worked ( 1889 - 1900), set up family and spend the last years of his life in Bulgaria. Unfortunately, my two attempts were deleted by the Bulgarian wiki administrators due to the English language of the pages created. I don't speak Italian but the sources of Alessandro Durando's bigraphy are mostly in Italian and it is very likely to be supported by Italian authors.

So, what would you advice me to do - to create a new article in Bulgarian or ...?

If your page was written completely in English and published on the Bulgarian wikipedia, it's been rejected because of that. Here it would have happened the same. In recent weeks, 400,000 images of finds, logged and photographed by the en:Portable Antiquities Scheme, have been uploaded to Commons.

Adding Images to an Article

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have been making edits to the Italian Wikipedia page for Zajednica Talijana u Zagrebu (https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comunit%C3%A0_degli_Italiani_di_Zagabria) and I was wondering whether there was a way to add the association's logo to the article. I am not a confirmed user yet, and therefore cannot upload it myself, and as it is a logo it cannot be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. However, the image has been uploaded to the Croatian Wikipedia (https://hr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datoteka:Zajednica_Talijana_Logo.png). Is there a way to attach this image to the article?

The Wikimedia movement is beginning a movement-wide strategy discussion, a process which will run throughout 2017. For 15 years, Wikimedians have worked together to build the largest free knowledge resource in human history. During this time, we've grown from a small group of editors to a diverse network of editors, developers, affiliates, readers, donors, and partners. Today, we are more than a group of websites. We are a movement rooted in values and a powerful vision: all knowledge for all people. As a movement, we have an opportunity to decide where we go from here.

This movement strategy discussion will focus on the future of our movement: where we want to go together, and what we want to achieve. We hope to design an inclusive process that makes space for everyone: editors, community leaders, affiliates, developers, readers, donors, technology platforms, institutional partners, and people we have yet to reach. There will be multiple ways to participate including on-wiki, in private spaces, and in-person meetings. You are warmly invited to join and make your voice heard.

The immediate goal is to have a strategic direction by Wikimania 2017 to help frame a discussion on how we work together toward that strategic direction.

As we mentioned last month, the Wikimedia movement is beginning a movement-wide strategy discussion, a process which will run throughout 2017. This movement strategy discussion will focus on the future of our movement: where we want to go together, and what we want to achieve.

Regular updates are being sent to the Wikimedia-l mailing list, and posted on Meta-Wiki. Each month, we are sending overviews of these updates to this page as well. Sign up to receive future announcements and monthly highlights of strategy updates on your user talk page.

On behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation Elections Committee, I am pleased to announce that self-nominations are being accepted for the 2017 Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees Elections.

The Board of Trustees (Board) is the decision-making body that is ultimately responsible for the long-term sustainability of the Wikimedia Foundation, so we value wide input into its selection. More information about this role can be found on Meta-Wiki. Please read the letter from the Board of Trustees calling for candidates.

The candidacy submission phase will last from April 7 (00:00 UTC) to April 20 (23:59 UTC).

We will also be accepting questions to ask the candidates from April 7 to April 20. You can submit your questions on Meta-Wiki.

Once the questions submission period has ended on April 20, the Elections Committee will then collate the questions for the candidates to respond to beginning on April 21.

The goal of this process is to fill the three community-selected seats on the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees. The election results will be used by the Board itself to select its new members.

The full schedule for the Board elections is as follows. All dates are inclusive, that is, from the beginning of the first day (UTC) to the end of the last.

• April 7 (00:00 UTC) – April 20 (23:59 UTC) – Board nominations
• April 7 – April 20 – Board candidates questions submission period
• April 21 – April 30 – Board candidates answer questions

Prototype for editing Wikidata infoboxes on Wikipedia

I’m sorry for writing in English. It’d be great if someone could translate this message if necessary.

One of the most requested features for Wikidata is to enable editing of Wikidata’s data directly from Wikipedia, so the editors can continue their workflow without switching websites.

The Wikidata development team has been working on a tool to achieve this goal: fill and edit the Wikipedia infoboxes with information from Wikidata, directly on Wikipedia, via the Visual Editor.

We already asked for feedback in 2015, and collected some interesting ideas which we shared with you in this thesis. Now we would like to present to you our first prototype and collect your feedback, in order to improve and continue the development of this feature.

We present this work to you very early, so we can include your feedback before and all along the development. You are the core users of this feature, so we want to make sure that it fits your needs and editing processes.

You will find the prototype, description of the features, and a demo video, on this page. Feel free to add any comment or feedback on the talk page. The page is currently not translated in every languages, but you can add your contribution by helping to translate it.

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to follow all the discussions on Wikipedia, so if you want to be sure that your feedback is read, please add it on the Wikidata page, in your favorite language. Thanks for your understanding.

I recently found the Italian Wikipedia page about the village of Ballino in Trentino Province. I am a descendant of people from Ballino. My wife, daughter, and I have visited the village and have stayed with my cousins of the Fruner family there. During our most recent visit in September 2002, our family held a reunion event for about 100 members from northern Italy and Germany. A photo with a brief caption about that event were later published in the Trentino Emigrazione magazine.

I would like to help in some way to develop an English-language Wikipedia page about Ballino so that my American family members who cannot read Italian can enjoy learning about their ancestral village. Please tell me how I can begin. I am in contact via email with cousins in Vicenza and Verona who can help us verify the accuracy of the information we post there and ensure that it will present a positive view of the village and its people. I look forward to working with you on this project.

ich habe aus einem alten Buch ein Bild vom Erdbeben in Kalabrien, auf dem Vittorio Emanuele zu sehen ist, wie er den Schaden begutachtet (das Bild will ich hochladen). Unter dem Bild steht: "Vom Erdbeben in Kalabrien: König Viktor Emanuel besucht das zerstörte Dorf Zamaro". "Zamaro" kann ich auf keiner Karte finden. Stimmt die Bildunterschrift? RfC regarding "Interlinking of accounts involved with paid editing to decrease impersonation"

There is currently a RfC open on Meta regarding "requiring those involved with paid editing on Wikipedia to link on their user page to all other active accounts through which they advertise paid Wikipedia editing business."

Note this is to apply to Wikipedia and not necessarily other sister projects, this is only to apply to websites where people are specifically advertising that they will edit Wikipedia for pay and not any other personal, professional, or social media accounts a person may have.

Il Reading Infrastructure team della Wikimedia Foundation sta sviluppando un servizio cross-platform per la creazione di liste di lettura sulle app mobile di Wikipedia. Le liste di lettura sono cartelle di preferiti nel tuo web browser. Queste liste permettono agli utenti delle app Wikipedia per aggiungere le pagine ai preferiti per leggerle in seguito. Questo include la lettura offline. Le liste di lettura non creano o alterano il contenuto in alcun modo.

Per creare le Liste di lettura, gli utenti dell'app dovranno registrare un account e le pagine selezionate saranno associate a quell'account. Le preferenze dell'account sulle Liste di lettura si sincronizzano tra i vari dispositivi. Puoi leggere la stessa pagina su differenti piattaforme mobili (tablet e telefoni). Questa è la prima volta che sincronizziamo i dati delle preferenze tra più dispositivi in questo modo. Vogliamo sentire eventuali preoccupazioni sulla privacy e la sicurezza dei dati. Vogliamo anche spiegare perché il sistema degli Osservati speciali non è stato adottato per questo scopo.

Premesse

Nel 2016 il team Android ha rimpiazzato la funzionalità Pagine salvate con le Liste di lettura. Le Liste di lettura permettono agli utenti di aggiungere tra i preferiti delle pagine in cartelle per la lettura offline. Lo scopo di questa funzionalità era di permettere la "sincronizzazione" di queste liste per gli utenti con più dispositivi. A causa di una sovrapposizione con la funzione "Raccogli" e le preoccupazioni della community che ne sono derivate, questa funzionalità è stata rimandata.

Il team Android ha identificato questa mancanza di sincronizzazione come una delle principali lamentele degli utenti, che si aspettano una sincronizzazione delle liste. Il team iOS ha rimandato l'implementazione delle Liste di lettura perché la sincronizzazione era una caratteristica indispensabile per questa funzionalità. Una recente RfC tecnica ha permesso a queste storie e necessita di essere sbloccate. Inizialmente per Android, poi iOS e infine potrebbe arrivare su PC.

Le liste di lettura sono private, immagazzinate come parte dell'account utente e non sono pubbliche come le pagine wiki. Non c'è alcuna possibilità di condivisione o pubblicazione le per Liste di lettura. Non ci sono piani per renderle pubbliche. Il pubblico target è composto da persone che leggono Wikipedia e vogliono salvare e organizzare questi contenuti nelle app. C'è la possibilità per la funzionalità di essere attivata sul web in futuro.

Perché non gli Osservati speciali

Gli Osservati speciali offrono funzionalità simili alle Liste di lettura. Il Reading Infrastructure team ha valutato l'infrastruttura degli Osservati speciali prima di esplorare altre opzioni. In generale, le esigenze degli Osservati speciali differiscono dalle Liste di lettura in alcuni punti chiave:

• Le Liste di lettura si focalizzazione sulla lettura degli articoli, non sul monitoraggio delle notifiche.
• Gli Osservati speciali si focalizzano sul monitoraggio delle modifiche alle pagine.
  • L'infrastruttura degli Osservati speciali è un punto saldo della community dei contributori per il monitoraggio manuale delle modifiche e attraverso l'uso di strumenti automatizzati (bot). A causa di queste necessità, l'espansione dello scopo degli Osservati speciali per la lettura avrebbe reso il progetto più difficile da mantenere e avrebbe aggiunto più restrizioni.
• Mantenendo i progetti separati è più semplice scalare le risorse. Possiamo salvare due differenti tipi di pubblico e dare priorità al lavoro di conseguenza. Le Liste di lettura sono, per la loro natura, meno critiche per la salute di Wikipedia/MediaWiki.
• Supporto multi progetto. Le Liste di lettura sono per progettazione cross-wiki/progetto. Gli Osservati speciali sono legati alle wiki specifiche. Nonostante ci siano state molte discussioni per rendere gli Osservati speciali cross-wiki, la soluzione non sarà pronta nel breve periodo.

New print to pdf feature for mobile web readers

Dare una nuova funzionalità offline era una delle aree evidenziate dalla ricerca effettuata dal New Readers team in Messico, Nigeria e India. I team hanno creato un prototipo per i PDF che è stato valutato dalle ricerche sugli utenti e dai commenti delle community. La valutazione del prototipo ha ricevuto commenti e risultati positivi, e lo sviluppo è continuato.

Per la distribuzione iniziale, la funzione sarà disponibile per Google Chrome su Android. Il supporto per altri browser arriverà in futuro. Per Chrome, la funzionalità userà la funzionalità stampa nativa di Android. Gli utenti possono di scaricare la pagina come PDF. User group for Military Historians

"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. i am English, i do not speak Italian at all, so i have no interest in editing this wiki at all so i have NO idea why someone has all of a sudden started adding welcome messages to my talk page, i do NOT have an account here and do not wish to be here and wish this to stop

[@ Tony Spike] watch your language. On Wikipedia, whether it is it.wiki or en.wiki, there is no place for insults and vulgarity. Also, your account, user page and talk page are in no way your property. It is actually permitted to remove the automatic welcome message, but there might be a chance someday you will be contacted again by a user or a bot for a reason or another. [@ Tony Spike] I suspect you might be overthinking the whole situation a litlle bit. Some pieces of information: 1) you are "unified" as one so-called m:SUL account. 2) a welcome message does not mean you are "part of a community", it means that someone is saying hello, you are part of a community when you interact with it. 3) in any case this is rude and I agree it was basically unnecessary. Whatever point is supposed to prove (e.g. that the userpage is not yours) it's useless under such circumstances. I have left welcome messages to thousands of users to dozens of platforms and there is always a 0.1% who has issues with that, and in my experience they are mostly anglophone (like you). When they remove the message, and they leave such clear request, it is standard on many other platforms not to insist. it is true that enwiki has much more respect of personal spaces, although its users sometimes exaggerates this requests on other plaforms. For example they think they have the "right" to remove everything they want. That's not permitted in the case of a content-related or behavior-related communication but it is usually accepted for a welcome message.

Requesting undeletion of the page Energica Ego

Hi, an article I started on Energica Ego was deleted after discussion. It was deleted because some users believed it to be a little recent(or they simply don't liked it). I will like to know how can I request restoration of the article after it becomes "not recent". I know article is worth keeping, so after some time it will definitely become worthy of keeping. Foreign soccer team names

Hi everyone! I don't know if this is the right place to bring this up, so feel free to move the message if it's not. I was working on a few articles on Croatian/Slovene/Bosnian/Montenegrin soccer teams on another wiki, and I noticed that there was a mix of capitalization on Italian Wikipedia. For example, you guys have Nogometni Klub Karlovac, Nogometni Klub Maribor, Fudbalski Klub Borac Banja Luka, Fudbalski Klub Velež Mostar, etc., but also Nogometni klub Istra, Nogometni klub Lučko, Fudbalski klub Kolubara, Fudbalski klub Grbalj, etc.. The word "klub" (club, team) should not be capitalized. Even if there's a rule in Italian that requires it to be, it'd be good to move the articles one way or another so that the titles are consistent. :-) – Srdjan m (msg) 09:41, 17 mag 2018 (CEST)
