Gli Erasure sono un gruppo britannico di musica Synthpop fondato nel 1985, che ha raggiunto l'apice della notorietà negli anni ottanta.

Il gruppo, fino dai tempi della sua fondazione, si è occupato del rispetto per i diritti civili improntando su questa chiave anche la propria attività artistica.

Storia

Vince Clarke è stato membro e fondatore di Depeche Mode e Yazoo.

Erasure è un duo synthpop inglese, composto da cantautore e tastierista Vince Clarke e Andy Bell che è il cantante. Erasure entrò nella scena musicale debuttando nel 1985 call singolo "Who Needs Love Like That". Dopo l'uscita del suo quarto singolo "Sometimes ", il duo rientrò nella UK Singles Chart e divenne uno dei gruppi di artisti di maggior successo tra la fine degli anni ‘80 e gli inizi degli anni ‘90. Il gruppo, fino dai tempi della sua fondazione, si è occupato del rispetto per i diritti civili improntando su questa chiave anche la propria attività artistica.

Dal 1986 al 1997, Erasure ha ottenuto 24 hit consecutive Top 20 nel Regno Unito, mentre negli Stati Uniti ebbe la sua Top 20 hit (Billboard Hot 100) che incluse "A Little Respect", "Chains of Love " e "Always". Nel 2009, 34 dei loro 45 singoli e EP (estended plays di cui 8 dei 45 non sono stati ammessi a beneficiare delle chart UK) avevano realizzato la UK Top 40, con 17 scalate in Top 10. Etichettata come "le definitive Superstars dle synthpop ", il duo è maggiormente popolare nella sua Gran Bretagna d’origine e nell'Europa continentale (in particolare Germania, Danimarca e Svezia), come anche in Sud America (soprattutto in Argentina, Cile e Perù). Ad oggi, Erasure ha venduto oltre 25 milioni di album in tutto il mondo.

La band gode di popolarità anche all'interno della comunità LGBT, come il suo cantante apertamente gay, Andy Bell, che è diventato un'icona gay.
