Il Deer tick virus (DTV) è un virus del genere Flavivirus diffuso tramite zecche causa di encefalite.[1]
Il DTV ricorda da vicino il virus Powassan (con cui ha un'identità di sequenza nucleotidica dell'84% e identità di sequenza amminoacidica del 94%).[2]A causa delle loro strette somiglianze, la DTV è anche chiamata lignaggio del virus Powassan II.[3]
Si presume che il lignaggio del DTV sia mantenuto tra Ixodes scapularis, o zecche di cervo, e il topo dai piedi bianchi (Peromyscus leucopus).[4]
Nel 1997, il DTV fu isolato in una zecca della specie: I. scapularis nel Massachusetts e nel Connecticut.[5]
