Zen 2[modifica | modifica wikitesto]
Zen 2 è il nome in codice di una microarchitettura progettata da AMD che succede Zen e Zen+. Annunciata durante il Computex 2019 sui processori desktop Ryzen 3000 (nome in codice: "Matisse"), essa sfrutta un processo produttivo a 7 nm di TSMC che porta miglioramenti nelle performance e nell'efficienza.[1] La microarchitettura è alla base anche dei Ryzen mobile 4000U/H (nome in codice: "Renoir") e 5000U (nome in codice: "Lucienne"), dei Threadripper 3000 e delle APU Ryzen 4000G.
Inoltre, Steam Deck, PlayStation 5, Xbox Serie X e Serie S utilizzano chip basati su Zen 2 con modifiche e configurazione diverse rispetto a quelle vendute da AMD.[2]

AMD nel 2017 annuncia Zen+ nel 2018 e Zen 2 nel 2019 con il nome in codice di Matisse, iniziando così la nomenclatura ispirata dai pittori più conosciuti che continuerà anche nelle generazioni successive.[3][4]
Al CES 2019 AMD ha mostrato un processore Ryzen di terza generazione con 8 core e 16 thread,[5] al Computex 2019 è stato rivelato che Zen 2 avrebbe avuto fino a 12 core ma nel novembre 2019 è stato rilasciato il Ryzen 9 3950X dotato di 16 core e 32 thread.[6]
I primi processori rilasciati sono stati il R9 3900X, i R7 3800X e 3700X, i R5 3600X e 3600 il 7 luglio 2019.[7] Essi sono stati seguiti dal 3600XT, 3800XT e 3900XT un anno dopo.[8]
