MC Ren, nome d'arte di Lorenzo Jerald Patterson (Compton, 14 giugno 1969), è un rapper statunitense, famoso per aver fatto parte degli N.W.A..

Biografia

Nato e cresciuto a Compton, MC Ren fu membro dei Compton Kelly Park Crips assieme a Eazy-E e, dopo aver terminato le scuole superiori presso la Dominguez High School Si Unì Agli N.W.A.. Nel 1987 Ren compare sull'album d'esordio dell'amico Eazy-E e, l'anno successivo, contribuisce alla realizzazione di 'Straight Outta Compton', album degli N.W.A., con varie parti vocali. Nel 1989, dopo l'abbandono del gruppo da parte di Ice Cube, Ren si dedicherà anche alla scrittura di varie tracce per il gruppo. Come membro degli N.W.A. MC Ren scrisse ed incise tre tracce soliste, Tra cui Just Don't Bite It ( dall'EP 100 Miles and Runnin') e She Swallowed it, contenuta nell'album Efil4zaggin.

Gli N.W.A. furono il primo gruppo gangsta a raggiungere il grande pubblico. Nonostante il successo del loro album, Niggaz4Life, che raggiunse la prima posizione nella Billboard 200 nel 1991, contrasti tra Dr. Dre e la Ruthless Records portarono il gruppo a dividersi. Eazy-E e il manager del gruppo furono accusati di cattiva gestione del denaro.

Dr. Dre lasciò il gruppo per formare la Death Row Records. MC Ren in seguito produsse, con l'aiuto di Eazy-E il suo disco di debutto solista, dal titolo Kizz My Black Azz, che vide la luce nel 1992. L'album non godette di una grande diffusione ma, nonostante questo, fu insignito di quattro dischi di platino. L'album successivo di MC Ren, Life Sentence, fu cancellato a causa della sua conversione alla Nation of Islam [5] Capital Punishment Organization. Shock of the Hour uscì nel 1993. Tra le tracce dell'album c'era anche quella 'Mayday on the Frontline' che compare nel film CB4.

Comparve anche sulla posse cut "Some L.A. Niggaz" da 2001 di Dr. Dre, ma solo nell'intro, con una parte parlata.

Nel 2000 MC Ren compare sulla traccia Hello, contenuta nell'album Ice Cube's War & Preace Vol.2 (The Peace Disc), insieme a Dr. Dre.

Attualmente Ren è impegnato nella conduzione dello show radiofonico settimanale "MC Ren Radio Show", in onda in America sulle frequenze di 92.5 KYHY Burbank Radio. Il suo ultimo disco, del 2009, si intitola "Renincarnated" .

Un altro pseudonimo di Mc Ren è "The Villain"
