Farthest South

Il Farthest South, talvolta indicato anche come Furthest South (in italiano il più a sud) era un modo per indicare la più elevata latitudine meridionale mai raggiunta dall'uomo. Con la conquista del Polo Sud da parte di Roald Amundsen nel 1911, il termine è divenuto obsoleto.
Significativi passaggi per la conquista del Polo sono stati la scoperta di terra a sud di capo Horn nel 1619, l'attraversamento del circolo polare antartico da parte di James Cook nel 1773 ed i primi avvistamenti del continente antartico del 1820.
