L'album contiene versioni cover di canzoni che hanno influenzato Lynne mentre cresceva e risiedeva a Birmingham;è stato registrato tra il 2010 e il 2012.
At Last era programmato per essere il primo singolo nel Regno Unito e Mercy Mercy il primo singolo americano emesso dall'album.
Lynne ha detto dell'album:
«I call this new album Long Wave because all of the songs I sing on it are the ones heard on long wave radio when I was a kid growing up in Birmingham, UK. These songs take me back to that feeling of freedom in those days and summon up the feeling of first hearing those powerful waves of music coming in on my old crystal set. My dad also had the radio on all the time, so some of these songs have been stuck in my head for 50 years. You can only imagine how great it felt to finally get them out of my head after all these years»
«Ho chiamato questo nuovo album Long Wave perché tutte le canzoni che vi canto sono quelle che ascoltavo alla radio da ragazzino a Birmingham, nel Regno Unito. Queste canzoni mi riportano alla sensazione di libertà in quei giorni e raccolgono la sensazione della prima volta che ho sentito quelle potenti ondate di musica arrivare sul mio vecchio servizio di cristallo. Anche mio padre teneva la radio sempre accesa, quindi ho alcune di queste canzoni impresse in testa da 50 anni. Immaginate la mia grande sensazione nel tirarle finalmente fuori dalla testa dopo tutti questi anni.»
