BCT

Bad Compilation Tapes/Borderless Countries Tapes è un'etichetta indipendente di musica punk/hardcore fondata nel 1981 da Chris Chacon e da Dave W. a San Diego, California. Ha pubblicato, dal 1981 al 1986, 27 cassette contenenti 149 gruppi provenienti da 17 paesi di tutto il mondo. Nel 2002 sono stati realizzati 7 cd tratti dalle 27 cassette.

Tutti i nastri BCT sono registrati su cassetta TDK D60 (tranne #6 e #11 su TDK D90).
I 27 nastri non sono bootleg, ma sono stati autorizzati da tutti i 149 gruppi (ad eccezione dei due nastri brasiliani Tropicali Virus I e Tropicale Virus II). BCT è un progetto fai da te (DIY).

Il logo della BCT è un personaggio chiamato Moe Hawk.
L'immagine è stata disegnata in bianco e nero da Dan, il cantante degli Eat the Rich di San Jose. Craig Caron, il fondatore della Schizophrenic Records, ha colorato l'immagine e l'ha utilizzata per pubblicare la versione in vinile del nastro BCT # 18 I Thrash, Therefore I Am.

I nastri, dopo 35 anni, sono ancora prodotti e distribuiti dalla etichetta Velted Regnub.

La BCT ha cominciato la sua produzione pubblicando un annucio sul numero 8 di MRR che chiedeva ai gruppi di spedire le loro composizioni.
L'annucio permise di stabilire rapporti con alcune riviste italiane (Rockerilla, ecc.) e fanzine italiane (TVOR, ecc.) che contribuirono molto all'internazionalizzazione dell'etichetta. Tra i gruppi italiani pubblicati dalla BCT ci sono i Raw Power, i CCM e i Wretched.

Alcune fanzine italiane nel 1984 cominciarono a chiamare l'etichetta Borderless Countries Tapes che decise di aggiungerlo al nome originale. Nel 1983 una compagnia di trasporti canadese adottò il nome BCT: British Columbia Transit.

Il tour dei Raw Power

Nel 1984, dopo aver ristampato in USA il primo demo dei Raw Power, con l'aggiunta dello storico concerto a Pisa, il Last White Christmas, registrato nel 1983 (BCT #5 Raw Power), Chris Chacon organizza il loro tour a stelle e strisce: prima punk hardcore band italiana a proporsi al pubblico degli States.

Durante il tour, 24 spettacoli in 40 giorni, i Raw Power suonarono al Grand Olympic Auditorium di Los Angeles con i Dead Kennedys davanti a più di 5.000 persone.

In quei giorni l’etichetta indipendente en:Toxic Shock Records di Pomona, California si fece avanti per la pubblicazione del secondo album Screams From The Gutter che venne registrato ad Indianapolis verso la fine del tour, nello studio di Paul Mahern degli Zero Boys, in un giorno e mezzo soltanto.

Il disco uscì nel 1985 e vendette più di 40.000 copie tramite canali indipendenti. Nello stesso periodo la BCT pubblicò Live in the USA, una cassetta con tutti i migliori brani registrati in tour (15 nastri di 24 concerti).
