Erlend Øye (Bergen, 21 novembre 1975) è un musicista e produttore discografico norvegese.

Insieme a Eirik Glambæk Bøe fa parte dei Kings of Convenience, duo acustico di fama internazionale. È stato definito rappresentante del "New Acoustic Movement"[1].

Biografia

È cresciuto ascoltando e appassionandosi a Nick Drake, The Smiths, Leonard Cohen e Suzanne Vega e a quest'ultima afferma di dovere tutt'oggi gran parte della sua ispirazione musicale. Durante le scuole superiori ha stretto amicizia con Eirik Glambæk Bøe, con il quale in seguito ha formato gli Skog ("foresta" in norvegese), ispirandosi alla nota canzone dei The Cure, A forest.

Ha iniziato a farsi conoscere a livello internazionale nel 2001 con l'uscita di Quiet Is the New Loud, album interamente acustico inciso assieme a Eirik sotto nome di Kings of Convenience. Nello stesso periodo, Erlend ha collaborato anche con i Röyksopp, duo norvegese di musica elettronica, prestando la sua voce nei brani Poor Leno e Remind Me (inclusi nell'album Melody A.M.).

Sin dall'inizio della sua carriera ha vissuto tra Bergen, Londra, Manchester e Berlino, approfondendo in quest'ultima città il suo interesse per la musica elettronica. Per qualche tempo è stato anche in tour come DJ-cantante, incidendo l'album solista Unrest nel 2003 e realizzando nel 2004 un remix CD per la raccolta DJ Kicks.

Nel 2006 ha partecipato al film italiano Shooting Silvio nelle vesti di Dj durante la scena di una festa in casa del protagonista.

È stato fondatore e leader della band tedesca The Whitest Boy Alive, realizzando due album: Dreams nel 2006 e Rules nel 2009. La band ha annunciato il proprio scioglimento nel mese di giugno 2014.

Tra il 2012 e il 2013 si è trasferito nei pressi di Siracusa, di cui è cittadino onorario[2] e in cui attualmente vive con la madre[3]. In agosto 2013 ha pubblicato il brano La prima estate, interamente cantato in italiano.

In luglio 2014 è uscito il nuovo singolo Garota, nel cui video compare l'attrice coreana Hana Lee. Il brano precede l'uscita dell'album Legao, prevista per ottobre 2014[4].

In parallelo all'attività di musicista, è impegnato nella promozione di gruppi della scena musicale bergense ed è sostenitore nonché organizzatore del Træna Festival, evento musicale annuale che si svolge nel nord della Norvegia. E' fondatore insieme a Marcin Oz della casa discografica Bubbles, con la quale ha prodotto gli album Hest e Six Months Is A Long Time della band norvegese Kakkmaddafakka.
