Joseph Ber Soloveitchik (in ebraico יוסף דב הלוי סולובייצ'יק?; Pružany, 27 febbraio 1903Boston, 9 aprile 1993) è stato un rabbino, filosofo e educatore bielorusso, ebreo ortodosso naturalizzato statunitense. Importante Talmudista e filosofo moderno, discendente dalla dinastia rabbinica lituana dei Soloveitchik (Brisker).[1] È inoltre noto per aver promosso una sintesi tra lo studio della Torah e lo studio moderno occidentale, come anche l'impegno sociale comunitario. È stato guida e consigliere, mentore e modello per decine di migliaia di ebrei, sia come studioso talmudico che come leader religioso. È quindi considerato una figura di riferimento dell'ebraismo ortodosso moderno.[2]

Sionismo[modifica | modifica wikitesto]

Soloveitchik si è affermato come preminente leader della coscienza politica pro-sionista dell'ebraismo ortodosso moderno: in segno di rispetto per questo molti leader e politici di Israele gli hanno spesso chiesto consiglio e benedizioni in affari di stato. Gli è stata offerta la posizione di Rabbino Capo di Israele, per esempio dal primo ministro Menachem Begin, ma ha sempre gentilmente rifiutato questa offerta. Nonostante il suo sostegno aperto e ardente per il moderno Stato di Israele lo ha solo visitato, quando ancora si chiamava Palestina, nel 1935. In un saggio, dal titolo Kol Dodi Dofek ("La voce del mio amato bussa"), Soloveitchik ha sostenuto che il progetto sionista è stato un precursore della redenzione.[2][3]
