Kenneth R. Rosen è uno scrittore, giornalista e corrispondente di guerra americano che vive in Europa centrale.[1] È stato nominato vincitore del premio Bayeux Calvados-Normandy Award for war correspondents ed è stato due volte finalista al Livingston Awards.[2] Rosen è autore di due libri di saggistica, Bulletproof Vest and Troubled: The Failed Promise of America’s Behavioral Treatment Programs, che sono stati pubblicati rispettivamente nel 2020 e nel 2021.[3][4] È scrittore collaboratore di Wired. Ha scritto anche per The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Atavist, Politico e altri.[5]

Rosen è nato nel 1990 a New York. Ha frequentato la Valley Forge Military Academy and College e il Savannah College of Art and Design. Ha conseguito un BFA presso il Savannah College nel 2014. Ha anche frequentato la Columbia University. Nel 2021, Rosen ha ricevuto il Media & Arts for Peace certificate dall’ United States Institute of Peace.[6]
Rosen ha iniziato la sua carriera giornalistica nel 2010 e ha lavorato per quotidiani locali come il Savannah Morning News in Georgia e il Juneau Empire in Alaska. Nel 2014 si è unito a The New York Times come assistente alle notizie, dove ha lavorato per 6 anni.[7] Nel 2020 Rosen è entrato al Newsweek come redattore senior e corrispondente, dove ha lavorato per un anno prima di dedicarsi al giornalismo indipendente e alla scrittura. Nel corso degli anni, diversi importanti organi di informazione hanno pubblicato i suoi lavori. I suoi scritti sono stati tradotti e pubblicati in arabo, spagnolo, tedesco e giapponese.[8]
Nel 2018 ha ricevuto il Bayeux Calvados-Normandy Award for war correspondents per la scrittura di articoli per il The Devil's Henchmen, un articolo nel The Atavist sui riti di sepoltura dei combattenti dello Stato Islamico in Iraq.[9][5] È stato due volte finalista per il Livingston Award nel reporting internazionale nel 2018 e nel 2020.[10][11]
Nel 2020, Rosen è stato autore di Bulletproof Vest pubblicato da Bloomsbury Publishing. Il libro considera un giubbotto antiproiettile a livello molecolare e sulla scena mondiale. Bulletproof Vest ha ricevuto recensioni critiche da parte di importanti testate, tra cui Los Angeles Review of Books e Kirkus Reviews con il The Day definendolo "uno studio sulla guerra in prima linea, teso ma ben scritto".[3][12] Il libro fa parte di della serie di Object Lessons, una serie di libri sulla vita nascosta delle cose ordinarie.[13] Wired a nominato Bulletproof Vest nella loro lista dei Most Fascinating Books WIRED Read del 2020.[14]
Nel 2021, il secondo libro di Rosen, Troubled: The Failed Promise of America’s Behavioral Treatment Programs, è stato pubblicato da Little A. Il libro esamina il settore dei programmi di trattamento residenziale per giovani adulti. Troubled è stato inserito nell'elenco dei New Books to Watch aned Editor's Choice per il mese di gennaio 2021 dal The New York Times.[15] Robert Kolker lo ha recensito nel The New York Times Book Review e lo ha definito "Non solo un'opera di estesa empatia, ma un servizio pubblico".[4] Il libro ha ricevuto recensioni positive anche da Kirkus Reviews e il The Times Literary Supplement.[16][17]
