Quella che ora è chiamata spesso Teoria dell'etere di Lorentz (in inglese: Lorentz Ether Theory, LET) ha le sue radici nella "Teoria degli elettroni" di Hendrik Lorentz, che fu il punto finale nello sviluppo delle teorie classiche sull'etere alla fine del XIX e all'inizio del XX secolo.
