Re: about football statistics

I verified the information about the match Italy-Egypt 11-3. According to the famous Italian book Almanacco Illustrato del Calcio, the match was played on 10-06-1928, but according to IFFHS that game was played on 09-06-1928. I think that IFFHS is always correct, so I have corrected the information here. When I have time, I will inform you about the other issues that you have pointed out. Gavriil Kačalin

Hi Sergey! Sorry for the trouble, but I have a question about the legendary Soviet coach Gavriil Kačalin (Гавриил Качалин). Do you know which is his correct date of birth? Fifa.com declares 20-03-1911, as you can read here, while many Russian websites declare 17-01-1911. It's a very complicated issue, but if you know something more about this matter, please, inform me. Olympique de Marseille - AC Milan 1990/91

Dear Sergey, some days ago, you contacted me about the match Olympique de Marseille - AC Milan 1-0 (goal: Chris Waddle) played on 20-03-1991. That match was suspended because Milan abandoned the pitch and Uefa subsequently awarded a 3-0 win to Olympique de Marseille. I am completely sure about this matter, because I've consulted several Italian books. According to Uefa's purposes, Uefa assignes equally the goal to Chris Waddle. In fact, some months ago, I contacted Uefa and they informed me that:

Player appearances and minutes played

The minutes played until the abandonment of a match are considered as the minutes played in the match. This definition is for statistical calculations only.

Goalscoring

The goals scored in the match attributed to the player shall be included in the overall statistics. This definition is for statistical calculations only.

Disciplinary

Any disciplinary sanctions entering the abandoned match that is in some way played but later forfeited have been served (i.e. in the context that the match has been played, any player with a two-match suspension entering the game, one match has been served, while any player with a one-match suspension entering the game, this suspension has now been served).

All bookings from the abandoned match itself are recorded and shall be applied to any subsequent match.

1995 UEFA Intertoto Cup

Hi Sergey, I think I've found out the "truth" about the 1995 Intertoto Cup. If you please take a look at the video of the game Strasbourg-Tirol Innsbruck 6-1 exactly at this moment, you can see that a Strasbourg's player is grasping the Intertoto trophy. For this reason, the match played on August 22, 1995 was valid for the Intertoto Cup: Strasbourg conquered the trophy, and not Tirol Innsbruck. Also, some days ago, I contacted the German club Karlsruher Sport-Club and they confirmed me that they only won the 1996 edition, not the 1995 one. --VAN ZANT (msg) 11:32, 23 giu 2013 (CEST)

Hi again. Yes, when I contacted Karlsruher, I advised them that, according to UEFA, they are the "winners" of the 1995 Intertoto Cup. But they clearly answered me that the only trophy they won is the 1996 edition. Please note that uefa.com is not always reliable. In fact, the same website, but in Italian, in this page, reports that "FC Girondins de Bordeaux, una delle due vincitrici dell'edizione inaugurale della Coppa UEFA Intertoto" that is to say: "FC Girondins de Bordeaux, one of the two winners of the first edition of the UEFA Intertoto Cup". Also, take a look at Hertha Berlin's profile: uefa.com states that they won the 2006 Intertoto Cup, but Newcastle United was the only winner of that edition! But unfortunately the issue is still not clear. I can also suppose this kind of situation: the matches Strasbourg-Tirol Innsbruck and Bordeaux-Karlsruher were valid both for the 1995 Intertoto Cup and for the 1995-96 UEFA Cup. I remember that a similar situation happened in South America, when the 1998 Recopa Sudamericana was also valid for the 1999 Copa Mercosur.
