Il genoma e le proteine dell' HIV (virus dell'immunodeficienza umana) sono stati l'oggetto di numerose ricerche già a partire dalla scoperta del virus nel 1983.[1][2] Ogni virione possiede un pericapside la matrice associata che racchiude il capside, which itself encloses two copies of the single-stranded RNA genome and several enzymes. The discovery of the virus itself occurred two years following the report of the first major cases of AIDS-associated illnesses.[3][4]
