Gypsum

Mineral of common occurance, composed of hydrated calcium sulhate, CaSO4.2H2O. It has a number of commercial uses. A fine-grained gypsum called alabaster, is used for ornament work, and burnt Gypsum is known as plaster of Paris, since it was obtained for a long time from the Gypsum quarries of the Montmartre district.
