Progetto:Coordinamento/Università/UNIBG/Heritage studies and ICT [[User:Borgiu//Heritage studies and ICT 2020-2021]]

As far as my Wikipedia contributions for the course Heritage Studies and ICT are concerned, on one hand I chose to focus on the update, translation and correction of the article of my hometown Cairo Montenotte, in the Province of Savona, Italy; on the other hand, I created from scratch the article of the Ferrania Film Museum, located in Cairo Montenotte, that was missing. Since I had previously collaborated with the Ferrania Film Museum, I chose to expand their presence online also on Wikipedia.

For Cairo Montenotte’s article I contributed by:

Translating them according to the Italian version and the changes I had previously made there.

  • In the English version of the page, I have also added photographs taking them from the Wikimedia Commons category of the municipality (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Cairo_Montenotte).
  • Adding how I would like to contribute and what was my aim by making references to the University project, in the discussion section of the article.

For Ferrania Film Museum’s article I have contributed by:

  • Creating the article in which I have added:
    • The introduction section;
    • The table at the right by using the “museum template”;
    • The “collezione” section;
    • The “percorso espositivo” section;
    • The “gestione” section;
    • The “sede e attività” section;
    • The “altri progetti” section, where I have added the link to the category relating to Ferrania Film Museum on Wikimedia Commons;
    • The “collegamenti esterni” section;
  • Publishing the Museum photos on Wikimedia Commons creating a category for Ferrania Film Museum.
  • In order to get the permissions to publish the images of the museum on the article, I have written several emails to “Permissions – Italian Wikipedia” following the instructions given in the Course Wikipage. Indeed, as soon as the director of the museum sent me some photos he had previously taken of it, I proceeded by asking him to sign me the authorization model in which he gave me the right to upload them on Wikimedia Commons. For most of the images that I have uploaded on Wikimedia Commons we had no problems with the credits and authorizations. However, with two of the photographs we had to make some research to understand whether the museum had the right to publish them. So, I worked together with the director and the supervisor from Wikipedia Italia to insert the right credits. They are still in the process of getting the authorization.
  • Working in person with the director of the museum to write as much correct information we could gather as possible.
  • As far as the sources used to complete the article, I have used the Cairo Montenotte municipality official website, the museum official website, the Fondazione 3M official website.
  • Adding how I would like to contribute and what was my aim by making references to the University project, in the discussion section of the article.
  • Translating the Museum page from Italian into English. Since I am a new contributor on Wikipedia, I have not the authorization to publish it. I have created the translated article as a draft (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Borgiu/Ferrania_Film_Museum).

I have contributed to OpenStreetMap (username: Borgiu) on Cairo Montenotte by:

  • Adding “Porta Soprana” as a historical building to the map;
  • Adding the “Pro Loco di Cairo Montenotte” headquarter to the map;
  • Adding the “Valbormida” subsection of Club Alpino Italiano headquarter to the map;
  • Adding the San Rocco Church to the map;
  • Adding the opening hours to Ferrania Film Museum to the map;
  • Updating the address to Osvaldo Chebello Theatre/Cinema on the map;
  • Adding Palazzo Scarampi to the map;
  • Adding the Public library F.C. Rossi to the map;
  • Adding a children playground to the map in Cairo Montenotte;
  • Adding the name of Pizza Abba in Cairo Montenotte to the map;
  • Adding Le Macine Relais B&B, Hotel Ristorante Pizzeria La Torre and B&B Villa Eugenia to the map;
  • Adding the middle school G.C Abba in Cairo Montenotte and correcting a secondary road that was previously wrongly mapped;

In general, I would say this project really helped me deepen the heritage and tourism system of my hometown. I really appreciated the support from the stakeholders with whom I worked. I found out that, when considering the online presence of the town or the museum, institutions are gradually more enticed. However, even though the concept of developing and maintaining the online image of the destination is gaining more and more importance within the overall tourism system, there is still much to do.
