User:Mcava19/Heritage studies and ICT 2020-2021

My username is Mcava19, student of the University of Bergamo and attending student of the course Heritage Studies and ICT. I am contributing to articles about municipalities, territories and heritage in the frame of Wikipedia. The goal od the project is to enrich existing pages and possibily enrich the content.

Before starting the actual work, I created a Wikipedia account.

After that, I registered on Wikimedia Dashboard through my Wikipedia account and I added a little description on my Wikimedia profile.

I later created my user page in both the Italian (link) and the English (link) version of Wikipedia and there too I added a few pieces of information about who I am and what I am doing on Wikipedia. I also added the links of the pages I modified.

The pages I decided to contribute to are the following:

  • Lindisfarne (IT) link
  • Castello di Lindisfarne (IT) link
  • Abbazia di Lindisfarne (IT) link
  • Lindisfarne (ENG) link
  • Lindisfarne Castle (ENG) link

Lindisfarne (IT)

[modifica | modifica wikitesto]

The work I did in this page was just translating from the already existing page in Wikipedia English into Italian. More precisely:

  • I created the section “Nome e etimologia” and “Note”.
  • Before translating into Italian, I checked if the sources of the English page concerning what I wanted to translate were reliable (unfortunately some of them I was not able to check because I did not have access to them).
  • I translated almost the whole “Name and Etymology” paragraph and the subsection “Tourism”.
  • I added the respective references of the English page in what I translated.
  • I specified, before saving, that a translation had been made.

DISCUSSION PAGE (link): I briefly added what I did on this page.

Castello di Lindisfarne (IT)

[modifica | modifica wikitesto]

The work I did in this page was just translating from the already existing page in Wikipedia English into Italian. More precisely:

  • Before translating into Italian, I checked if the sources of the English page concerning what I wanted to translate were reliable
  • I added details in the “Storia” paragraph (reference 7 link)
  • I added information about Enric Miralles (reference 8 link)
  • I added the period of closure of the castle between 2016 and 2018 (reference 12 link)
  • I added the respective references of the English page in what I translated

DISCUSSION PAGE (link): I briefly added what I did on this page.

Abbazia di Lindisfarne (IT)

[modifica | modifica wikitesto]

In this page I only added an already existing picture (link) on Wikipedia (spiegare il processo fatto) that represents the Lindisfarne Gospels (Evangeliario di Lindisfarne), the manuscript that was cited in the text in the section “Storia”.

DISCUSSION PAGE: I briefly added what I did on this page.

Lindisfarne (ENG)

[modifica | modifica wikitesto]

This page has a lot of information concerning this small English island, so I decided to add a few details that could go a bit deeper into the already existing content. More precisely I added:

  • The date of Saint Cuthbert’s burial on the island of Lindisfarne (reference link)
  • The fate of the monks after the Viking attack in 793 (reference 52 link)
  • A curious thing that can be seen today on the island: upturned boats (reference 85 link)
  • An already existing picture on Wikipedia (spiegare il processo fatto) that represents the above-mentioned upturned boats (link)

DISCUSSION PAGE: I briefly added what I did on this page.

Lindisfarne Castle (ENG)

[modifica | modifica wikitesto]

Here I added a few more details concerning the whinstone hill called Beblowe on which the castle is situated, but it is no longer visible. It was removed by another user because it was not considered clear and relevant to the content.

Collaboration with other users

I did not collaborate with any of my classmates, but while working I had the pleasure to have interacted with two Wikipedians:

  • One user (nome) liked the contribution that I made on the Italian pages of Lindisfarne CHECK
  • One other user (nome) corrected my contribution on both the Lindisfarne Castle (as I already mentioned) and Lindisfarne.

I decided to work on this page because of my bachelor’s degree dissertation, in which I analysed the Viking attack on Lindisfarne in the year 793 in comparison with episode two of the first season (Wrath of the Northmen) of the TV series Vikings. It is a topic that, even after my graduation, I still find extremely interesting and captivating. Furthermore, I saw that the Italian pages concerning this area do not have a lot of information, so I wanted to expand a little bit the content so that also people that do not speak English and are interested in Lindisfarne and what it has to offer can read and learn.
