H5P è un software libero e open-source di creazione di contenuti basato su JavaScript. H5P è l'abbrevazione di pacchetto HTML5, is an abbreviation for HTML5 Package, e ha l'obiettivo di rendere facile per tutti la creazione, la condivisione e il riutilizzo di contenuti interattivi in HTML5.[1][2] Video interattivi, presentazioni interattive, quiz, linee del tempo interattive e molto altro[3] sono stati sviluppati e condivisi utilizzando H5P su H5P.org. H5P è utilizzato da 40.000+ siti web.[4][5][6] Nel mese di giugno 2018 il core team ha annunciato che H5p sarà finanziato dalla Mozilla Foundation all'interno del programma MOSS.[7]

Il framework consiste in un creatore di contenuti web base, un sito web per la condivisione di tipi di contenuti, plugin per i Content management system esistenti e un formato di file per raggruppare risorse HTML5.

L'editor web è in grado di aggiungere e sostituire file multimediali e contenuti testuali in tutti i tipi di contenuti e applicazioni H5P. Inoltre, un tipo di contenuto può fornire widget personalizzati per l'editor che consente qualsiasi tipo di capacità ed esperienza di editing, compresa la modifica wysiwyg dell'intera tipologia di contenuto.


H5P.org is the community website where H5P libraries, applications and content types may be shared. H5P applications and content types work the same way in all H5P compatible websites.[8]

Currently four platform integrations exist, one for Drupal,[9] WordPress.,[10] Tiki,[11] and one for Moodle.[12] The platform integrations include the generic H5P code as well as interface implementations and platform specific code needed to integrate H5P with the platforms. H5P has been designed to have a minimum of platform specific code and a minimum of backend code. Most of the code is JavaScript. The aim is to make it easy to integrate H5P with new platforms.

The file format consists of a metadata file in JSON format, a number of library files providing features and design for the content and a content folder where textual content is stored in JSON format and multimedia is stored as files or links to files on external sites.[13]

Most innovative examples of H5P are Branching Scenario[14] enabling creators to set up scenario-based learning opportunities, AR scavenger[15] which allows users use Augmented reality without installing special software, Cornell Notes[16] where students can follow the Cornell method to directly attach their notes and ideas to a text, a video or an audio file and retrieve their documentation later on and Image Choice[17] where one can create a task where the alternatives are images.

H5P ha creato un OER Hub'[18] dopo l'annunco alla Conferenza H5P nel 2020.[19]
