Fiume Misa, Senigallia

The Misa is a torrential river whose source is in the Apennine area of San Donnino,in the municipality of Genga.

The river is 45 Km long and it crosses 5 cities (Arcevia, Serra de’ Conti, Ostra Vetere, Casine di Ostra and Senigallia, where it flows in the Adriatic sea).

Flora and fauna[modifica | modifica wikitesto]

Along the banks of the Misa, there are lots of paths from which you can see the local flora and fauna. In this area, several plants like poplars, willows and canes naturally grow flourishing. When the river was less polluted, there were eels that lived under stones in the water, and a lot of frogs. The Misa is also the natural habitat of a big bird called airone.

The original name of this river was Sena, from the roman city Senigallia (Sena Gallica). Between ‘800 and ‘900, there were some water mills used to grind grain. Nowadays, only one is left in Arcevia, used to create hydraulic power.
