The Museum of sharecropping history “Sergio Anselmi” located in Senigallia inside the convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie, was built at the end of the XV century. It has been named “Sergio Anselmi” since 2004 after the name of its creator and scientific curator, who ran it from 1978 to 2003.

The museum, which for its grandeur and scientific rigor join the most important Italian demo-anthropological museums, documents the characteristic of the work and life of the sharecropper from the XIX century up to the sixties of the XX century. Over 2.000 objects are arranged thematically in thirty rooms, according to their role in the sharecropping economy and according to the calendar of works and seasons. There are also enlargements of photographs from early XX century and works on canvas by Vittorio Ottavio Giuliani with scenes of peasant life that accompany the visitor throughout the exhibition. On the walls of the second staircase and the first-floor landing, the collection of photographs by Mario Giacomelli on “Agricultural work” and “Agricultural andscape” that he donated to the museum in 1978 is on permanent display.
