Droctulf From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search Droctulf (also Drocton) was a Byzantine general of Germanic, possibly Suevi, Alemanni, or Lombard extraction. He followed the Lombards into Italy in 569, but joined the Byzantine army to fight against them. He was an ally of the Emperor and the Pope.

After Faroald captured Classis, the port of Ravenna, Droctulf recaptured it in 575-576. He was briefly imprisoned, but was released and served as the commander of the Byzantine post at Brescello around 584. He warred extensively against Authari and then was called to the Balkans and Thrace to fend off the Slavs and Avars threatening the Danube frontier. He was recorded with the title of dux of Reggio nell'Emilia.
