| Descrizione | A Gemeenlandshuis is a building that is or was formerly used as the headquarters of one of the Waterboards of the Netherlands. This house was built in 1641 in the "Pieter Post style", and is now used as offices of the Hoogheemraadschap Rijnland of Spaarndam. This house is now called the Rijnlandshuis, and is the house where Nicolas Samuelsz Cruquius lived, the founder of the measurements for the KNMI and whose work is remembered in a steam-pumping station in a town named after him. The original Gemeenlandshuis van Rijnland that was near this house, next to the Spaarne sluice gate, on early maps (ca 1600) named "Het Huys te Oosterwaal", was dismantled in favor of this one after 1728. The bell on top of the house was used to alarm the dike warden in case of a flood. In 1777-1778 the Dutch writers Aagje and Betje Wolff stayed several months in this house. |
