One of thesurprising things about opinions of feeding chickens isthe ;>ersi.«tence with which some authorities cling to theidea that oats are an iileal an<l very complete food, andoat meal the most desirable article for feeding youngchicks; when the fact is that (rhicks do not like it, andthe .sentiment in favor of it is traditional, and not basedon modern experience at all. Oat meal and corn meal mixed together, and withbran, make a good food for chicks. The proportion ofthe meals to bran may be slightly greater for chi(;k8 thanfor fowls, because the growing chick can more readilyutilize an excess of nutricious matter than the maturedfowl can, but the diUerence in this resjiect in rationsshould be slight. Hard boiled eggs are often fed very heavily — espe-cially if fertility of eggs is poor — and when combined,as they too often are, with a ration which without them (Coiif illiie<l on Inside Rack Cover.)
