English: This Mesolithic period rock painting shows a variety of deer walking along the old Deccan Road or the Mirzapur road where Morhana Pahar is located. Morhana Pahar is an old archaeological nomenclature for a group of some 200 rock art sites, on top of the Bhainsor escarpment, near a village by the name, located in the Lalganj Tehsil of Mirzapur District of Uttar Pradesh. It was discussed at length by the archaeologist Dr. Bridget Allchin, but the discovery of this large group of painted shelter is credited to a 19th century archaeologist A.C. Carlyle, working in the employ of the Archaeological Survey of India. A recent discussion of the paintings and their historical and archaeological significance may be found in Pratap, Ajay, 2016. Rock Art of the Vindhyas: An Archaeological Survey. Archaeopress. Oxford.
