The Forlì branch campus is located in Forlì, Italy and is one of the five separate multicampuses[1] of the University of Bologna in the Romagna area, together with those in Cesena, Ravenna and Rimini.

History

The Forlì campus is located in the former Morgagni Hospital area, following a project of renovation and modernisation that aimed to strengthen the role of the Forlì campus within the Romagna multicampus and increase both the national and international appeal of the town.

The beginning of the campus dates back to 1989, when the second Faculty of Political Science of the University of Bologna and the School of Modern Languages for Interpreters and Translators (SSLMIT) were founded. Between 1991 and 1992 degree programmes of the faculties of Economy and Engineering were added to the programme catalogue of the campus. In 2000 the first department of the campus, the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies on Translation, Languages and Cultures (SITLeC), was created. It is a research center focusing on inter-linguistic and inter-cultural processes of mediation.

Up until this moment, there was no unified campus; that changed in 2001, when the university of Bologna decided to adopt a Multicampus structure by activating decentralised campuses in the Romagna area. This decision was made following the Legislative decree n° 662/1996, which urged "mega-universities" (with more than 40,000 enrolled students) to solve the problem of accessibility and guarantee the right to education of potential students. After 2001 academic offerings were widened but kept their highly internationalised and professionalized character: the Faculties of Engineering and Economics were added to the existing faculties.

In 2015 the construction of the newest facility of the campus, the so-called Teaching Hub, was finally completed. It is made up of 21 lecture halls varying in seating capacity from 25 to 300, each equipped with modern technologies. All areas offer free University WIFI and accessibility to the disabled. Furthermore, there are also numerous study spaces both in the Teaching Hub and in the adjacent University Library (Biblioteca Ruffili).
