IWGP World Heavyweight Championship
L'IWGP World Heavyweight Championship (世界ヘビー級王座?), è stato un titolo di proprietà della New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
Storia
[modifica | modifica wikitesto]Il titolo nasce dall'unificazione del IWGP Heavyweight Championship con l'IWGP Intercontinental Championship. I due titoli sono stati vinti da Tetsuya Naito durante Wrestle Kingdom 14 [1] e da allora sono sempre stati difesi insieme fino a quando, il 28 febbraio 2021 a Castle Attack, Kōta Ibushi, detentore di entrambe le cinture, ha sconfitto proprio Naito mantenendo il titolo intercontinentale. Il giorno dopo la NJPW ha deciso di unificare le cinture acconsentendo alle richieste di Ibushi,[2] creando un unico titolo che portasse avanti la storia delle due cinture più importanti della federazione. Ibushi è stato ufficialmente riconosciuto come primo campione dopo aver mantenuto le due cinture separatamente un'ultima volta contro El Desperado durante il 49º anniversario della federazione.[3]
Il 4 gennaio 2026, in occasione di Wrestle Kingdom 20, Yota Tsuji sconfigge Konosuke Takeshita per l'IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. Il giorno dopo a New Year Dash!! presenta la cintura Heavyweight e in una conferenza svoltasi il 6 gennaio dichiara, con l'avvallo del presidente NJPW Hiroshi Tanahashi, la separazione del titolo e l'unificazione dei due albi d'oro.[4]
