Deutsch: Die Vorderseite zeigt eine Porträt Georg F. Grotefends im Profil nach rechts. Die umlaufende Legende nennt den ersten Anlass der Prägung. Der Künstler Heinrich F. Brehmer signierte unterhalb des Porträts.
Die Rückseite zeigt links zwei weibliche Personen, eine Athena und eine Stadtpersonifikation (vgl. Mauerkrone in der Antiken Kunst), mittig eine Gruppe von Kindern und rechts Männer in mittelalterlicher Rüstung und mit Kronen (Herzöge). Der Schild, der bei den Frauen steht, zeigt das Wappen der Stadt Hannover, der Schild bei den Männern hingegen das Wappen des Herzogtums Braunschweig-Lüneburg. Auf der Standlinie findet sich erneut die Signatur des Medailleurs. Die umlaufende Legende nennt den zweiten Anlass der Prägung. Im Abschnitt unter der Standlinie das Datum des Jubiläums.English: The front side depicts a bust of Georg Friedrich Grotefend who was working as principal of the Lyceum of Hannover. The dedication names his 50th anniversary of working at the school as the first occasion for strucking this medal. The local engraver Heinrich F. Brehmer signed below the bust.
The back side deipcts a group consisting of a pair of females, three children and a pair of men. The females can be identified as an Athena and an allegory of the city of Hannover indicated by the heraldic sign of this city on the shield and her mural crown. The men on the other hand are depicted in medieval armour and wearing crowns. The shield on their side depicts the crest of the Duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg. The dedication names the 500th anniversary of the Lyceum as a second occasion for strucking the medal. The date of celebration is given at the bottom of the medal. |
