English: The Tomb of Bettino Craxi in Hammamet (Tunisia) with posted a compass to indicate the direction it is facing: 142 degrees clockwise from North (azimuthal dipdirection), i.e. towards the SSE. The compass used is a geological compass application on smartphone. It indicates (second line) azimuthal dipdirection (clockwise from North between 0 and 360 degrees) and dip (downwards from horizontal, between 0 and 90 degrees, of the long axis of the phone. Furthermore (in the first line), it shows the strike (short axis of the phone), clockwise from North between 0 and 180 degrees which is the short axis of the phone, and azimuthal value in the same range. It shows that the long axis of the cross on the tomb is dipping horizontally towards 142 degrees clockwise from North, which is towards the Southeast. This is actually at 90 degrees to the Medina City wall of Hammamet which constitutes the inner border of the cemetery (against which the tomb is placed), which is trending in a SW-NE way, semi-parallel to the coast. The tomb is in that sense facing the sea shore of Hammamet, towards the SE, and therefore towards Libya. The reason this specific picture was taken on the 19th of April 2017, and successively loaded into Wikimedia, is that some sources in literature sustain that the tomb is facing Italy, which resulted, through this verification, not to be according to the reality. This error was probably induced by the fact that the wall of the cemetary is low, and looking from the tomb towards the southeast the sea can therefore be seen; Uncautious observers may have concluded that Italy is situated on the other side of the sea which is only true for some parts of the Tunisian shore.
