Fell (montagna)
Fell (pl. fells) è un termine dell’inglese regionale (Scozia e Inghilterra settentrionale) che indica un rilievo montuoso o una brughiera d’altura; in uso locale il termine è impiegato per i rilievi del Lake District e dei Pennini. L’etimo risale all’antico norreno fjall («montagna»). [1][2][3]

[modifica | modifica wikitesto]Nel Lake District il termine designa i rilievi d’altura ed è radicato nelle pratiche tradizionali di pascolo su terre comuni («open fell»). [4] Nella comunicazione turistica locale «fell» è comunemente usato come sinonimo di «montagna» o «collina» di grandi dimensioni. [5]
Etimologia
