Royal Rumble 2012 è stata la venticinquesima edizione della Royal Rumble, un evento annuale di wrestling in pay-per-view prodotto dalla WWE. Si è tenuto il 29 gennaio 2012 allo Scottrade Center nella città di Saint Louis, Missouri[2][3].
L'evento principale è stato il Royal Rumble match il cui vincitore, come consuetudine dal 1993, ha diritto a sfidare a WrestleMania (in questo caso WrestleMania XXVIII) il WWE Champion o il World Heavyweight Champion in un match titolato.

Storyline [modifica]
Nella prima puntata dell'anno di Raw, il 2 gennaio 2012, il campione CM Punk affronta Dolph Ziggler in un match con in palio il WWE Championship[4]. Durante il match interviene il GM di Raw, John Laurinaitis, che aveva visto un'irregolarità durante il match. A causa sua CM Punk perde il match per count-out, mantenendo però la cintura[5]. Così proprio John Laurinaitis, a causa del fatto che Dolph Ziggler non ha avuto l'opportunità di conquistare il titolo, sancisce un rematch, dove egli sarà l'arbitro speciale. Inoltre CM Punk, battendo Jack Swagger a Raw la settimana seguente, bandisce quest'ultimo e Vickie Guerrero da bordo ring per supportare Dolph Ziggler.
Altro match previsto per questo evento è quello fra Kane e John Cena. La rivalità fra i due va avanti da diverse settimane ed è inevitabile lo scontro.
Dopo due match consecutivi finiti in No-contest a SmackDown, dove Daniel Bryan difendeva il World Heavyweight Championship prima contro Big Show e poi contro Mark Henry, è stato indetto un Triple Threat Steel Cage match fra i tre per il titolo[6].

Il Royal Rumble match [modifica]
Il Royal Rumble match torna a 30 wrestlers dopo l'edizione a 40 dell'anno precedente[7]. L’atleta rimasto meno tempo sul ring è stato Epico che ha resistito solo 11 secondi, mentre quello rimasto più a lungo è stato The Miz con 45 minuti e 39 secondi[8]. Solo sei uomini invece sono rimasti sul quadrato per più di 10 minuti[8]. Hunico è stato il miglior rookie della rissa reale restando sul ring 9:01[8].
Cody Rhodes è stato il wrestler che ha fatto più eliminazioni: 6, mentre Big Show ne ha eliminati ben tre nel giro di 16 secondi (Cody Rhodes, The Miz, Dolph Ziggler)[8]. Kharma è stata la terza donna ad aver partecipato a questo tipo di match, dopo Beth Phoenix nel 2010, e Chyna nel 1999 e nel 2000[8]. Randy Orton è il wrestler con più presenze nella rosa degli ultimi quattro atleti, con cinque apparizioni in questa élite[8].
Sheamus, alla seconda partecipazione, è il primo irlandese a vincere la rissa reale[8].
