Gli ambasciatori europei rappresentano l'Unione europea nelle relazioni diplomatiche negli Stati in cui sono accreditati.

Tutti i diplomatici ricevono un accreditamento presso il Capo dello Stato ospitante, e costituiscono parte integrante del Servizio europeo per l'azione esterna.
