Gerald James Toomer (Aldershot, 23 novembre 1934) è uno storico e storico della scienza britannico.
È uno storico dell'astronomia e della matematica che ha scritto numerosi libri e pubblicazioni sull'astronomia dei Greci e quella islamica medioevale. In particolare, ha tradotto in inglese l'Almagesto di Claudio Tolomeo.
Precedentemente componente del Corpus Christi College, Cambridge University, si trasferì alla Brown University come ricercatore nel 1959 per lo studio della "storia della matematica nell'antichità e la trasmissione di questi sistemi attraverso gli Arabi in Europa medievale."[1] È entrato nel dipartimento di storia della matematica nel 1963, divenne professore associato nel 1965, e fu preside dal 1980 al 1986.[2][3]
