Gee Vaucher
Gee Vaucher (Dagenham , East London, 1945) è un'artista e anarchica britannica.
Il suo lavoro con l'anarco-punk band dei Crass è stata una delle basi per l'arte di protesta degli anni '80. Vaucher ha sempre visto la sua arte come un mezzo per poter migliorare la società
Nella raccolta dei suoi primi lavori (1960-1997) Crass Art and Other Pre Post-Modernist Monsters, Gee mostra come ha utilizzato i suoi collages e i suoi disegni per mostrare i suoi forti sentimenti di anarco-pacifismo e femminismo.
Il suo secondo libro, Animal Rites, tratta delle relazioni fra uomini e animali, incentrato sulla frase "All humans are animal, but some animals are more human than others".
Nella prefazione alla raccolta retrospettiva del 1999 Crass Art and Other Pre Post-Modernist Monsters, Ian Dury scrive:
| « In its original form, Gee's work is intricate and tactile, and while the imagery is sometimes almost overwhelming, the primary concerns are those of a painter; dealing with form and space. Mere newsprint would hardly do justice to its subtle tones. When the work is printed, the space becomes more simple and the graphic images take on a different life. The concerns are those of delivery, and the message is clear. » |
Il suo film Gower Boy, realizzato in collaborazione col pianista Huw Warren, è stato presentato al 14° Raindance Film Festival di London nell'Ottobre 2006[1].
