The silver dish is part of a treasure hoard discovered in the vicinity of the parish church of Isola Rizza by a local resident working in his field in the winter of 1873. The treasure consisted originally of this dish, six silver spoons, two disk fibulae of gold and silver with filigree mountings, one belt clasp, and three belt fittings of gold. The belt clasp and one belt fitting are now lost.

The dish shows in a framed base medallion a horseman charging in from the left, armed with a Spangenhelm, lamellar armor, and lance, and who is spearing a footman warrior with his lance. He is leaping with his horse over a fallen warrior who is likewise outfitted with shield and spatha. The two foot warriors are frequently characterized as Lombards on the basis of their outfits and the type of their weaponry as well as their beards. The horseman, on the other hand, is frequently described as as Byzantine mounted soldier.

Die Silberschale ist Teil eines Hortfundes, der 1873 von einem Dorfbewohner im Umfeld der Pfarrkirche von Isola Rizza entdeckt wurde, als er sein Feld bestellte. Der Hort bestand ursprünglich aus dieser Schale, sechs Silberlöffeln, zwei Scheibenfibeln aus Gold und Silber mit filigranem Stegwerk, einer Gürtelschließe und drei Gürtelbeschlägen aus Gold bestand. Die Gürtelschließe und ein Beschlag sind heute verloren.

Die Schale zeigt im gerahmten Bodenmedaillon einen von links heranstürmenden Reiter, der mit Spangenhelm, Lamellenpanzer und Lanze gerüstet ist und einen Fußkrieger mit seiner Lanze durchbohrt. Er springt mit seinem Pferd über einen gefallenen Krieger hinweg, der ebenfalls mit Schild und Spatha ausgestattet ist. Die beiden Fußsoldaten werden aufgrund ihrer Tracht und der Art ihrer Bewaffnung sowie wegen ihres Bartes häufig als Langobarden, der Berittene hingegen als byzantinischer Reitersoldat angesprochen.
