Negli anni settanta Shokof lasciò l'Iran per continuare gli studi di fisica e matematica negli Stati Uniti d'America presso la Eastern New Mexico University, seguendo poi i corsi di gestione industriale all'University of Texas di Dallas.
Nel 1985 Shokof si trasferì in Germania, dove vive tuttora, intraprendendo a tempo pieno l'attività di artista e scultore. In parallelo, continuò a scrivere sceneggiature per il cinema, settore in cui debuttò nel 1995, sempre in Germania, con il film Seven Servants. Nonostante le sorti travagliate dell'opera, che rimase inedita per oltre tredici anni, consentì a Shokof di continuare la sua sperimentazione nel campo cinematografico.
Pensiero[modifica | modifica sorgente]
Il pensiero di Shokof ruota attorno all'idea dell'"unità" del genere umano come fattore primo. Questa idea si riflette in tutte le espressioni artistiche e filosofiche, a iniziare dal massimalismo artistico (fu proprio Shokof a coniare il termine nel 1990, a Colonia) e al suo corrispondente filosofico (lo yekishim), per proseguire nell'opera cinematografica e in quella pittorica, nelle quali il tema dell'armonia e dell'amore tra persone di ogni razza gioca un ruolo principale.
Produzione artistica[modifica | modifica sorgente]
Nel 1990 fu tra gli espositori della mostra Maximalisten di Colonia, che fu l'esordio ufficiale della corrente artistica del massimalismo, a cui nel 1991 fece seguitp la mostra Maximalists presso la Bess Cutler Gallery di New York.
Il massimalismo è una corrente caratterizzata da opere di tipo figurativo e incentrata sui temi primari dell'erotismo e della natura, vista sotto un taglio poetico e umoristico al tempo stesso. Tutte le opere esposte alla mostra di Colonia erano opere d'arte consapevolemente sociali, politiche e filosofiche.
Shokof collaborò subito dopo alla definizione del KunstHall di New York insieme a Christian Leigh, che ne comcpeì l'idea originale nel 1992. La prima collettiva Psycho, curata dallo stesso Christian Leigh, raccolse opere dei più importanti artisti contemporanei, tra i quali Andy Warhol, Bruce Nauman, Chuck Close, John Chamberlain, Ed Ruscha, Roy Lichtenstein, Heim Steinbach. In questo contesto, Shokof presentò il massimalismo.

Amenic Cinema is a term used by "Daryush Shokof" to explain his new methodology in filmmaking.the core principles of such a method of filmmaking has been set forth by Shokof as in the following lines: Tonight and before your sleep you probably plan your day ahead for things you have to do tomorrow. Now comes tomorrow and You are still alive,The day can begin as planned. Amenically enough and most definitely many things can or will not happen as you had it planned last night. you are simply not in complete control of how every second of your day would continue other than the fact that lets say you have a meeting at 9A.M. and now you have to make the meeting. the only clear concept is the meeting,but so many elements can even delay or completely prevent you to even make the date. Being open to all those uncontrollable elements and side happenings is all an "Amenic" is all about, with the hope to finally show a meeting takes place and or not. This is the core of making film in "Amenic" method. First you have a concept, then, you begin to produce a movie based on and around that concept , start shooting it, then, comes the editing,the final cut and now the movie can be screened. Just then and only then , you start writing the script of the film you have finished and screened.finished. Simply said you make the "film" and then write the "script" according to the finished film. For instance in "Wordlessness" www.IMDB.org, i had an idea told to me by my close associate "Daryoush Zandi" that some friends plan to spend a time together under one condition which is that none of them is permitted to say a word throughout that whole time together.That's all. I selected a cast. Then, decided to play with my own points of interest in making such a film. Soon i chose a blind man as the main character for the film, then, a magician became necessary to make the story more mystic; or perhaps poetic. the Magician is spiritually connected to the higher clouds. Then, we started shooting "wordlessness" with many different personalities in development of their characters while i was shooting the film. I have yet to write the script on "Wordlessness", but i would soon do so. the high point of my Amenic cinema is arguably the film "Flushers". It still is perhaps the most inspiring experience of my life. I am equally happy to hear that almost everyone in the film felt the same. The concept was clear that we are going to show a whole world of happenings in both Women,s Toilet and Men,s Toilet. Over100 people came together with delight to each have a scene and then let me guide them through their scenes as we were shooting their scenes. i have to admit no scripted movie can ever match the authenticity of what we shot with even first time actors. No one knew what exactly their lines were, neither did i but, We worked collectively together and everyone honored me by trusting me guiding them to their ideal point of acting as we continued filming. Here are basically ,briefly and simply the first rules of an Amenic film making and its perspective; 1. The concept is clear. 2. The complete concept remains in the head of the "creator" of the film. The "Director" 3. The film is first finished and then, the script is written of the film 4. Most definitely no distributor or producer could "EVER" have all and or any control over the film since the would never know the script until the film is finished 5. So as a producer or distributor one can only produce an "Amenic film" with complete trust in the "film-maker" . Here are the list of films that have been made entirely under "Amenic" methodology ;
