Athens è una città degli Stati Uniti d'America, nella contea di Clarke, nello stato della Georgia.

Il governo cittadino coincide con quello della contea che, per questo motivo è anche chiamata Athens-Clarke County (Contea di Athens-Clarke). La città contava 112.760 abitanti nel 2007, circa 175.000 considerando l'intera area metropolitana.

È la sede della University of Georgia, attorno alla quale l'intera città è sorta e cresciuta.

La città di Athens è nota anche per avere una scena musicale di grandissimo spessore, a partire dagli anni settanta. Tra i numerosi artisti nati e cresciuti in questa città spiccano il virtuoso chitarrista folk Leo Kottke, il gruppo rock dei R.E.M., e quello dei B-52's. Città natale di Kim Basinger, attrice. È nativo di questa città anche il gruppo power/progressive metal, Theocracy.
