L'American Broadcasting Company (ABC) è una storica televisione degli Stati Uniti.
Creata nel 1943 da una stazione della radio della NBC, oggi l' ABC e tenuta sotto controllo dalla Walt Disney Company ed è parte della Disney-ABC Television Group. I primi programi furono lanciati nel 1948. Il quartier generale si trova a Manhattan, infatti gli studios della Walt Disney Company si trovano a Burbank in California. La ABC sta avendo ora molto successo.
Il nome formale è di produzione della American Broadcasting Companies, Inc., e ciò viene fatto apparire su tutti i diritti di copyright e su tutti i documenti di proprietà della America Broadcasting Company. Inc.

[modifica] La storia
Dalla organizzazione delle prime stazioni radiofoniche negli anni '20, la televisione negli Stati Uniti venne dominata da due compagnie: la CBS e la NBC. Prima della formazione della NBC, la RCA ha acquistato alcune stazioni di New York come: la WEAF, laWFAN. Tutto ciò fino agli anni'30 ha determinato che negli Stati Uniti ci fossero due distinte televisioni che trasmettessero i programmi TV.
Nel 1940 la Federal Communications Commission ha dichiarato un documento che si chiamava il "Report on Chain Broadcasting." Questo documento aveva moltissima importanza perché diceva che le due compagnie televisive esistenti a quel tempo dovevano fare una sorta di cooperazione affinché i programmi negli Stati Uniti non risultassero identici. Tra il 1942 e il 1943 dalla NBC furono comprate altre stazioni Tv di proprieta del mercato di New York che si chiamavano cosi: WJZ, KGO, WENR e WLS.
Finalmente a metà del 1944 nacquè la vera e propria ABC capitanata dalla American Broadcasting Company'. Questo fece comportare che la CBS dovette cambiare alcuni nomi delle sue stazioni, esempi sono: WABC-AM 880 a WCBS (AM) WCBS-AM nel 1946 e nel 1953, WJZ cambia il nome in WABC AM.
[modifica] Gli Anni '60
Gli anni che la ABC ricorderà senz'altro con molta facilità saranno gli anni '60 perché è in questo periodo che l' ABC diventerà una televsione di successo vera e propri. Infatti comincia a mandare le prime news con TG indipendenti e le prime dirette sportive a partire dal 1967. I telegiornali della ABC vennero mandati in onda fino al 1990 con i seguenti orari: uno alle 7.00am (ET), il secondo alle 10.00am (ET), il terzo alle 3.00pm (ET) e l'ultimo alle 8.30pm (ET).

L'ABC ha cominciato nel trasmettere in HD a partire dal 2005 con la fortunata serie telvisiva Lost attualmente trasmessa in Italia da Rai Due.
